'OT'...I like that never heard of it that way!
As for the curtains my original girls didn't have them on the boxes initially. But no one was ever alarmed by them. Initially (and I still do this for the new babies), I keep the curtains parted so they can see the fake egg and an open nest box...
Just caught her in the act...my Zombie is laying the medium brown egg! (She is LOUD and proud!) That one in the 1st post. I'm so surprised its so dark. It's really very beautiful.
Now I'm super curious her mix because she's certainly not ACxWL since I've read as well those would lay white.
You are right I assumed my Zombie from Hoover's is AC x WL. But they don't disclose the mix so really have no idea!
I've actually "blown out" the 1st eggs of all my girls and will do the same for these!
Never have weighed eggs before. Would need a special scale haha
Ok got my 2nd new egg today! THIS one is definitely my Marans! It's darker than yesterday's egg.
Left egg - today
Right egg - yesterday
Do you think these 2 are from the same chicken? Didn't expect such different colored eggs from 1 girl.
I was thinking Marans too!
But my Zombie is from Hoover's (they call them Pearl Onyx) and description says they lay brown eggs. Do their eggs color vary?

I have four 20-week old and got my 1st egg today! (My 3rd flock but still eggciting!)
It's this cute darkish brown egg. It's either my Black Copper Marans or my Zombie (Ayam Camani x White Leghorn).
They both just started squatting this week and both have been hopping in and out of the nest...
The vet did an eye stain and said she has a scratch going strait across her eye! So they gave us Terramycin ointment to use for 10 days (good call on your part you suggested the same thing!), and 2 days of Meloxicam to help with discomfort.
They say the white thing seems to a part of her eye...
My 3 month old Uma has a white spot in the corner of her eye. I've noticed since I got her at 1 month old.
Didn't think too much of it but a few days ago her eyelid was swollen and her eye was bothering her. She kept it closed a lot and tried rubbing it against her body.
It's improved now...
I was recommended Scratch & Peck feed by a friend when I got chicks 4+ years ago. I exclusive use it now. I use both the Layer 'pellet' (in my treadle feeder), and the Layer 'mash' formula, wetted. The mash formula has grains, etc separated from all the added goodies which is sort of powdery...
Thank you for the response!
Can I get Terramycin without a prescription?
No respiratory or sinus issues in my flock of 10. Everyone is good and healthy!
My 12 week old Owl Beard seems to be having an issue with her left eye. Just started today and she's keeping it shut a lot.
I can't see anything obviously wrong with it except the eyelid may be a little swollen. Her eye itself looks fine.
I just cleaned it out with a sterile saline solution...
Do you have the grill piece that lays on top of the feed installed? It should move up and down based on feed amount level, and lays on top of the feed.
I have a Grandpa feeder that I've used for about 1.5 years and have had very limited issues with girls pecking out food. It's been better than...
Hi! I would recommend the Grandpa's feeder! Still using it and haven't had any rat problems with it.
I'm not using the Rent-A-Coop but I think I got a defective one since the guard that keeps the feed from being pecked out can't be removed and doesn't move up and down freely with feed...
Not crazy if you have the time and means to provide them the proper care (sufficient, secure space; feed; fresh water daily; health checks regularly; healthcare when needed).
I just looked on Hoover's website and they actually don't say that they either have clean or feathered legs!
I got her from the local feed store anyhow, and actually asked them to find the cleanest legged girl in there!
But it is interesting because she had more leg feathers when I 1st got her:
She improved throughout the day and acting quite 'normal' now!
But i think I'll do the CORID anyways since it can't hurt, right?
Is it ok to give CORID even if they eat a medicated feed with Amprolium already?
The other 3 girls will be drinking the same water if that changes anything.
