Hi, I got my first two hens in November, today I had my first egg which I watched her lay, she was making so much noise and unsettled in and out her house. She ended up laying it on the lawn 🤦♀️ Is it ok for the hens to lay them wherever they feel happy to?
Also my hens free range the garden...
Hey all, I’m in the uk, nice soggy winter for us. My beautiful green lawn is just a slip slide of mud 🤦♀️This year is my first year owning ducks and now 2 chickens also recently added to our family.
I use a kiddie pool for the ducks to play in, the plan is to put a drain on it and sink it a...
I hose out of my back gate at the moment, there’s nothing behind my house, so I pop a little disinfectant out there and hose it all away. I was thinking I could take the turfs up, hang them on the wall And hose them down?
but yes chip bark sounds ok, I didn’t think of that
this is how it was before we moved them, but they messed something rotten by the back door as they are so used to the house, they just hop in and out the back door quacking at my fridge 😂🤦♀️
I only have 2 ducks, they have the rest of the garden to free range. They’ve only been up the top in a pen for 2 days they had the whole garden prior to that
I’ll take a photo when I pop them to bed in a minute .
I’m thinking possibly fake turf might work as it’s not a huge space so could take it out Amd jet wash it to clean it off?
Ok,maybe not such a great idea right now then.
Because I give them access to free range on the grass which they love, could this be enough and then be ok on a slabbed area in between?
it seems my only other option is to try and sort some kind of roof and do sand
Thankyou so much for a reply,
I live in the UK, so it’s very hit and miss when it comes to the rain, we either get Tons of it or none at the moment. We’re currently in our summer season.
I think possibly next spring I will see about having some sort of roof put up. This is my first time having...
We have fenced off an area for our 2 ducks , there house is in the area which they go in at night cosy with shavings. My problem is what can I put down on top of the paving slabs , it has no roof from the elements so shavings or straw will ruin so fast.
I allow them onto the lawn as and when I...
So I’m getting the ducklings run ready, it’s on grass so this will obviously get wet and muddy.
I was thinking of doing a shavings base rather than then be in mud. They are on shavings in a pen indoors and this works well for them.
Are shavings suitable for the run or should it have maybe gravel...
So their little house does attach to the run, so should I leave the house door open so they can access the run if they want to at anytime through the night? Our garden is totally fox proof as we have a hide wall surrounding it, and their is no chance a cat could get into the run or house it’s...
Yeah they have plenty of space, yet when they come in at night they just pant like crazy in it.
I’m so pleased to hear that then having lots of outside time is the right thing to do, they love the garden, mingling with the dog and children.
ill miss them when they live out as we have lots of...
They are Aylesbury. This is a first rime for us, so worrying about them like crazy. They’ve made a huge impact to our lives and I adore them, so want to do what’s best for them.
pur night rime temps are between 60-65, we are predicted even hotter tomorrow.
I won’t do the towels again I didn’t...
I need some help. We are having really hot weather here in the UK .
my 3 week old ducklings are panting like crazy when they are indoors. We have introduced them to their garden run during the day and free roaming the garden when we are in it wirh them , in which they are very happy.
as soon...
