    Bantams I can’t figure out

I have three other porcelain d’uccles that look fairly different from this one. It’s buttery yellow? Light Brahma was my best guess on the last one, too. They (there are two, just one pictured) didn’t start getting feathers until nearly 4 weeks old!!!

    Bantams I can’t figure out

TSC got me. I don’t have much experience, period, certainly not with bantams. I think I’ve id’ed most of their breeds but can’t figure out a few. The red and black one, the yellow and that black and white turd. The last has been soooo slow to feather in!! They are all around 5 weeks now.

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Life has been chaotic. I just logged in for the first time in months to see this thread. We left 3 eggs under a stubborn broody silkie on 3/25 and there were two chicks on 4/14. They are such cute little mutts (as in color. They are 100% silkie)!! 🥰

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

I didn't know males matured quicker. That makes me feel a bit better. I have a male & female hatched at the end of May. He has been crowing (and apparently fertilizing eggs) for a few weeks now while she isn't even squatting and has shown no interest in the nest box. Maybe she will lay one day. 😆

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

All these chick pics are adorable! I wanted to add some fall chicks but a) building the silkie coop hasn't happened yet and b) I didn't want to risk more cockerels yet. Maybe 2022 will be year of the pullet. 🤞🤣

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Yes. Out of 12 chickens total, we have at least 5 cockerels. 🙄🤦‍♀️😆

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

So the third, of 5, silkies was crowing this morning. 😒🤣 I have only heard one of them crow one time at 6 weeks but he looks very much like a cockerel. Really hoping the last one is a 2nd hen! 🤞

Obsessive Chicken Disorder (OCD) help and support thread 😂😅🐔

I've been suppressing the urge to buy an incubator. I don't need to hatch or otherwise add anything until I have a bigger coop.

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

So far, this is how my guy is doing. He is 4.5 months and may change once the other cockerels age up. 🤷‍♀️ I did find out he managed to fertilize the first eggs my big (non-silkie) girls laid. 😳 Seriously shocked. They are only all together for a few minutes every week or so and I never...

Right? That was a year or so ago. My daughter had come in the house and said, "You should REALLY come look at the clouds right now." Glad I did! Mammatus Clouds https://earthsky.org/earth/amazing-photos-of-mammatus-clouds/

    Silkie chicken flipped over

Silkies are prone to vitamin deficiencies. Look for selenium with vitamin E if you suspect wry neck. Farm stores carry it for goats. It's a paste and comes in tubes that look like a large syringe. You can search Tractor Supply website to see it.

Just ran across these. The neatest clouds I think I've ever seen and they showed up at sunset.

    Is this fertilized?

Thanks. Feel silly I didn't consider him before assuming I had immaculately conceived chicks. 🤣

    Is this fertilized?

I guess with all the things I've read about it being chaotic when roosters "rape" hens, I thought I'd notice.

    Is this fertilized?

🤦‍♀️ I seriously never would have suspected him, didn't even cross my mind. He is such a chicken. 🤣 I'll have to keep a better eye on them. Sorry, I'm a dingus!

    Is this fertilized?

They don't free range. Had them from a few days old. I will say, I have a 4 mo silkie cockerel who is kept separate 99% of the time. They have some supervised time before lockup some evenings. I wouldn't think he is old enough or slick enough to pull off mounting without me noticing but I...

    Is this fertilized?

That's what I thought. The other three are pullets, I've been them in the nest boxes and found eggs. Their vents are all bigger and moist now that eggs have begun. Just so weird to have a few of my first eggs look fertile. 🤷‍♀️

    Is this fertilized?

Barbara would be the suspect. This is as boyish as ever s/he looks. I will try for a pic today. 20 weeks here

    Is this fertilized?

I just cracked open the first of our eggs today. The girls started laying last week. I am only confused as we have 4 supposed pullets together. No one crows, looks like a rooster or does rooster-y things to the others that I've seen. So maybe it isn't fertilized and I'm just imaging things.
