We adopted two bantams mid-September, one whom was supposedly laying before we took her, the other who stopped laying when previous owner got rid of the rest of his full-sized layers. We waited, and waited, for these two to adjust to being with us, and then to being with our 8 full-sized girls...
We got 13 eggs today from 8 hens/2 bantams... lol!!! Hubby moved the roost to clean and found a clutch of 7 eggs the bantams have been laying while on the roost. We've had them since September when we adopted them from a friend... nothing from them at all until our 8 chicks got to laying age and...
Egg #5 from one of the EE's today...that makes one pretty green egg each day for last 5 days. They are 26 weeks old now, when will the other girls start chipping in?!
We've had below 0 temps overnight here lately, and one of our EE's has just started giving us a beautiful green egg for the last 3 days. We have been finding them outside of the nest box. Because of the cold temps DH put a very small heat lamp in the coop just to give them some extra heat, and...
Unfortunately it was cracked and frozen solid so no eating this one for us. Hopefully we'll get more soon!!!
UGH Why now??? I just had knee surgery on Tuesday so I can't go out and congratulate them & encourage them to keep going!!
I AM SOOOOO EGGGGSITED!!!!
EGG #2 today, no cracks!!!!!
We are waiting no longer! Found our first egg today, it was green (from one of the EE's) frozen solid so probably from a day or so ago? Hopefully more to come!
2 bantams adopted mid-september.....NOTHING. 8 pullets we got mid-July, just turning 22 weeks....NOTHING. I am cursing living in Michigan because we may not see anything until spring. That's what I'm counting on, hopefully they surprise me.
We adopted two bantam hens a few weeks ago from a friend who was getting out of chickens... the cochin was laying before we brought them home but NOTHING since she's been here! We also have 8 'big girls' (2 each EE, Light Brahma, BR and BO) who are about 11 weeks old, so don't expect anything...
Great shooting, as to using a .22 in an urban setting I would highly recommend against it. It's not so much the noise, you can shoot from inside the house out an open window and it is unlikely that anyone will know where it came from even if they do hear it. That little projectile is very light...
Looks like everything is back up and running with Google Chrome, I received the red screen of death for your site a couple of hours ago and now can get on. I work with IT for a City and we use Malwarebytes along with some other tools. One I can suggest that has been doing good things for us on...
Welcome, you are in for a great adventure. Taking a look around at the posts you will find many answers on size and square footage of a run, you will find that the more you can give the happier the birds are. We just started our flock in July of this year, we wanted to stay around 5-6 chickens...
I just started my laying flock, all pullets- 2 Ameraucana, 2 Light Brahma, 2 Barred Rock, and 2 Buff's. My wife wanted some variety. Anyway, the chicks are only a few days old, they were purchased at a local hatchery, and we noticed that one of the Brahma has a spot of blood on its leg. Upon...
