I have two wooden coops with attached runs, each enclosed in 10x10ft dog kennels and I currently have a red mite infestation in both coops. I plan to clean out the shavings in the coops, spray the birds, and spray the wooden coops with the elector psp and water solution but I don't know if I...
Thank you, I stopped the calcium tablets, and she's doing okay so far. I will try to put barriers in their run to give her some more private space to see if it helps the issue
Last month, my 3-year-old orpington laid egg yolks and whites and kept straining for a week until she laid the egg membrane. I gave her calcium twice a day and a round of amoxicillin for ten days during this time.
She eventually laid an intact shell-less egg a week ago and a regular egg with a...
I felt under her vent and I don't feel an egg, it just feels like a small balloon. She still hasn't passed the membrane, but is eating, drinking, and moving normally still. I don't know if that means she's not egg bound
I think I may have given her too much calcium. I gave her a tablet last night, one this morning, and another about 3 hours later. I use all flock feed and leave oyster shells available at all times.
She poops a tiny bit, mostly liquid, and it's usually when she's trying to push
My 3 year old hen laid egg whites and yolks yesterday and has been straining to lay something afterwards ever since. Last night when she strained, it looked like the shape of an egg coming out of her vent surrounded by what I assume was her uterus but the egg wouldn't come out. The next day, she...
I found one of my 3 year old hens straining to push something out of her vent after a liquid egg came out of her vent (egg whites and yolk only, no shells or membrane).
She started walking around a bit and her vent was swollen and bulging and she was still straining so I gently put a finger in...
I read your thread, and you're right! Even down to her getting a little better then out of nowhere it just happened the same exact way :( so far my other ones are fine too, I'm so glad your other ones are okay. I'm so sorry about your Hazel, and thank you so much for posting ❤️
I ended up putting her back, and so far still no more symptoms. I got the results for the fecal test and they said everything is normal, no parasites or coccidia, so I'm a bit more relieved for now.
This is my first time owning chickens so I appreciate your advice so much, thank you
She's not acting sick, no breathing problems, weird noises or anything, just her eyes appear slightly closed/tired/a bit swollen to me, but I could be overly paranoid because of my last girl. She's been laying regularly, I just had to clip and wash some feathers under her vent because they were...
Thank you, if results are normal I'll find out Monday, if there is something wrong, they won't let me know until Thursday.
I will take pictures of her tomorrow if she makes the night and check her crop before she eats. I don't see mites or lice that I can tell, but I did spray her down with...
I had a hen die 2 days ago, her symptoms included:
-green poop
-gurgly/phlegmy breathing
-labored breathing (not opening beak, though)
-didn't lay eggs
She was still eating, drinking, walking around just fine until right before she died (she sneezed excessively, then couldn't breathe and...
Oh, that's a great idea, thank you for that.. my husband buried her already but I will keep that in mind if it possibly happens to another, I'll hopefully be more prepared (I'm really hoping it won't come to that though)
Thank you, I will keep this for future reference; I wanted to get a necropsy but I have no where to store her and my husband would probably get a heart attack if I suggested our fridge :(
My 2-year old RIR just died. She was having gurgles in her breathing and labored breathing (no open beak) for 4 days, no eggs for months ( I thought she was molting because she was missing a few feathers), and bright green poop, but no other symptoms. I was treating her with Baytril for the last...
I have a 2 year old rhode island red who is having respiratory symptoms. She is having labored breathing (she's not opening her beak, but her breaths are very deep and very noticeable), and every breath sounds like gurgling, crackling, and phlegmy. It almost sounds like she aspirated but it's...
