    Chicken suddenly pecks the other

Hi… I only have 2 chickens I raised since they were 8 weeks. They’ve been so cute together all these times, I called them besties. They walk everywhere side by side. Then, one of the chicken is molting and becomes very aggressive toward the other chicken. She starts pecking the other chicken...

    Are they pullets?

I bought them when they were 6 weeks from a hatchery. The owner did tell me if they are pullets. However, I just want to make sure. Can you help identifying for me? Now they are 9 weeks. :) thank you!

    My chicken opens mouth often

So I notice lately my chicken opens her mouth quite often. The weather was about high 90s close to 100s this week. However, it cools down at night to 70s. Do I need to watch out on her or it’s something chicken does normally during hot days? Do I need to take extra precaution? Thank you! (These...

Los Angeles and greater area: heater for winter?

Just wondering if I need to invest on any heating system for the coop?? I remember the coldest night was around high 30s and low 40s last year. Will they be ok without any heater?

    Compost

Thank you! I am so afraid with complaints from my neighbors if composting does turn out smell very disturbing. We don’t have much distance from each other. I wonder if the closed turning tumbler would help with the odor. Does anyone with turning composting bin could share?

    Compost

Hi. I am planning to compost my chickens poop but I am totally new with it. Thus, I definitely need some insight and suggestions. I live in urban area with very small garden area. I don’t have much area in the garden to pile the compost, nor in the run. Currently, the run size is about 85” x...

Can I leave chicks in the run overnight?

Day 4 having my 6 weeks chickens. I still have to chase them, pick them up (I think they hate me 😭) and place them in the coop. I will need to come home very late this weekend. Is it ok to leave them in the run (I predator proofed as much as I could with the apron, and 1/2” wire) overnight? Or...

    Is this crop?

Thank you! Do I need to worry if something is wrong with her? Her crop size looks slightly larger. I noticed this from yesterday. I just didn’t pay attention if it was smaller in the morning before she ate.

Hi! Help please. Is this crop? It looks bulging (bigger than the other chick I have). But I touched and it felt soft. Thank you!

Chickens ignored the grow and starter feed I provided

Update: Thank you! I called the hatchery and asked about the feed they gave the chicks. He, then, suggested to grind my grow and starter feed first before giving the layer mash crumbles. It did the trick! Little babies ate some today ❤️. But then found another problem…ants are all over the coop...

Chickens ignored the grow and starter feed I provided

Help! I just got my chickens yesterday. They are 6 weeks old and vaccinated. I provided the grow and started feed (non-medicated). However, they both ignore the feed. Originally I bought the PVC style feeder and waterer. However, they are not aware of these PVC feeder and waterer (just walked...

The coop preparation took a long time since I don’t know much about this and had to google everything. I just got my chickens yesterday. They are both 6 weeks and both are Ameraucana breed...
