We are in Media Pa. We have a Rooster who just started practicing his wake up calls. And we need to find him a new home. He is pretty. Free to a good home.
Some of my girls have what appears to be mud and or poop caked over some of there nails. It is very hard. Should I be getting this off ? Was wondering if it cause some type of constriction issue on the toes ie. circulation. thanks !!
I am composting my chickens poop for my vegetable garden and want to hear of what not to do. Currently I have chopped leaves, straw and kitchen scraps that i mix with the droppings and turn evry 2 wks. I want to make sure I don't ruin my garden with anything too hot or any other screw-up. thanks
There was a shell-less egg on the poop board this morning. Hens have been laying for only 2 months. Found a similar egg in nest box last week. No worries ? Thanks !!
Hi, We have been getting some eggs with a very tough inner membrane. The shell cracks fine but the membrane stays intact, and we have to kindof poke through it. Just trying to fry some eggs here !! Is this an issue with diet ? or just normal ? Thank You
Hi All, My EE started laying 2 wks ago and has been laying light brown eggs. Will she eventually start laying green or blue eggs ? Or is this it ? Still a great bird either way !! Thanx
I have 5 hens, all 16wks old. I have yet to let them free range but would like to do so on days or hours that I am home. Someone told me i missed the boat, that its too late to start free ranging them. Said i should have F/R them from the beginning. Is this true ? If not, what is the best way to...
This may be a dumb question. But i need to be sure. Our chickens have been outside for only a week now and seem to be doing great. I was amazed that they figured out in only two days to go up the ramp and into the coop at dusk. my question is-- I have been keeping their food and water in the run...
Here are four of our five chickens. One never stands still long enough for a good shot. We are wondering if one of our Shes is a He. Would love input on the sex of PeeWee the EE. Thank You

My girls ( I hope their all girls ) are 7 wks old. They just made the move to the finally completed coop outside. I have been offering HB egg, cooked pasta, and plain yogurt as treats. They love it all. my question is, when can I start on boss and or cracked corn etc.. ? thank you !! I'll be...
I have two feed stores in my area. One swears by "Layena" the other Pennfield. The Pennfield guy claims the stuff in layena is not needed . My girls will be free ranging for only a few hours a week. Can someone make sense of this for me ? I am in the early learning stages. thank you !
I posted a question that referred to brand names and it never showed up. Is there a rule against brand names in postings? Or did I just screw up and not hit submit ? :-)
I'm new to all this, but I think I have some helpful advice to new coop builders. Take the length of time you think its going to take to complete your coop and multiply by four. I have five girls that are finally going to get outside this weekend. ( I hope ) :-)
I was in a barn and came across a product called woodys pets bedding. it was in a white plastic bag. It looked like it was made from sawdust or something similar. In reading the bag it appeared as if this stuff might not be bad in a coop. Has anyone ever used this stuff ? If so, is it costly...
I am thinking of putting wood chips (from a tree surgeons chipper) in my run. Has anyone done this ? Looking for benefits(besides obvious price,,free) and potential problems. Thanks !!
