Well, this hen definitely has a strong broody streak in her, I can vouch for that.... Doesn't matter to her that these eggs are never going to hatch---
if sheer will-power alone would make eggs fertile--- I'd have several dozen chickens by now...

Hi gang--- been gone quite awhile, back today because I have a concern.... My hen, Perky came running over to me tonight to go into her kennel for the night, and when I picked her up, I swear, she felt sweaty , warm and damp all over her body.... most especially on the underside. Now, she isn't...
*This wasn't at my house, but while cleaning the church sanctuary after a Sunday morning service, I found somebody's toenail clippings in the hymnal rack!!!
* I can't believe it!! How many eggs has she got this time?? As cold as it is, water frozen already up there (uh, as I sit here in a breezy 8Od, give or take!!), I gotta wonder, WHAT is that crazy chicken thinking!! If it were me, I'd for sure be tucked up in a nice, cozy coop, not out in...
* L-O-L!! Gritsar, if that's what's stopping you, may as well hang it up. I have been married 3O+ years and "housebroken"??? Hon, the HOUSE broke FIRST!!!!!
* ESP's (extra special prayers) for you, Yogiman!! I miss you. Still think about that tornado that you dodged and how you dashed out for the chickies and how mad you were that your sweetie left her phone in the car when you called to check on her!!! Be strong!! We love you. Lots of hugs...
* I got a couple ceramic ones at a Cracker Barrel resturant. But, shoot, I paid a good bit more than 98 cents, and the hens weren't impressed either!!!
* From what I have read just recently, mash and maybe even crumbles may not be great ideas for adult birds long-term. I'd have to hunt to find the link again if ya'll are interested, but it claimed that crop and gizzard atrophy could result, and surprisingly, that they may get even LESS...
* I can take pics with the ties on-- but can't post them!! Not til we get moved, at least! I ain't taking those things off until I get her to Oregon, I don't think. We got enough bad habits in the family!! LOL! Besides, it doesn't look like much when she's sucking on it. Kinda like she has...
* Well, I would start looking hard at their environment-- Just hens?? Or do you have roos, too? What is it that is stressing these hens? Not enough room? Too many roos? Dirty water we already know. Too wet, too cold, not enough sun?? Predators around? Rats, maybe? You seem like you are expecting...
*Me, too!! That wattle was getting a good 1/4" longer than the other, and starting to look real white and pruney besides!! Cool thing with the ties is that they don't hamper her eating or drinking and being plastic-coated they don't soak up water either. Now, if I can just get the other one...
* It's a little unusual for a grown hen to get hit with cocci protozoa, but not impossible. IF that is what it is, she needs Sulmet fast. Until you can get that, start adding some cayenne pepper to her food. I read recently that it works pretty well against many of the cocci "bugs". I would...
*No idea what's wrong? No other symptoms? Try fixing her a tiny bowl of wet mash. That way she gets water as/if she eats it. I also had a heck of a time finding Pedialyte recently. Grocery stores here aren't carrying it all of a sudden!! Drugstore still had it though.
* BUGS are pricey!! Just got some waxworms, mealworms and 8 crickets for Miss Perky, she who is not too keen on regular feed. . . The crickets were 15 cents EACH, for crying out loud!! I think I am in the wrong business!
* So, some of you may recall my mentioning that Miss Chook had a habit of sucking on one of her wattles, just like a kid with a pacifier. . . WELL, got so bad recently that she was even trying to EAT with the darn thing stuck in her mouth! Yeah, that doesn't work, and I was sick of "pulling the...
