Could a large rooster cause a broken leg? I suppose it's possible, but it would be a new one on me.
Or maybe jumping from a high distance? again. it's possible. It's hard to tell
And is it possible for her to brake it again and damage it permanently and not be able to walk? Well that's...
It's worked well for me. I switched to it just a couple of months ago...and have helped a few people around here who had major mite/lice infestations. Worked really well. It seems to me that the paste has to be mixed well, so that even the large animals don't get too little or too...
I know that rooster has a special warning sound he uses for overhead dangers. Not only does my roo do it when there's a hawk overhead....but when I throw the ball for my dog over their heads!
I don't, however, have it on MP3 ...and don't have a recorder. If I had one, I'd get it for...
rat zapper.....Best $50 i ever spent.
We used to have rats in our shop, and we would always get a bunch of them when we tried a new method...but those guys are smart! Buttttt....with the rat zapper has been wonderful (it electricutes them). I initially tried it despite the cost because it had...
I've switched to using the horse paste called Jeffer's Ivermectin (Ivermectin Paste 1.87%) (~$5)
0.5cc for bantams, 0.8cc for sandards, and 1cc for ducks.....Given orally using a 1cc syringe.
Make sure you put the syringe down the throat towards the side, so you don't get it down the airway.
I...
Is the crop staying the same size throughout the day? It should be gone in the morning. If not, she may have an impacted crop. Here's what I did....
I gave the chicken drops of ACV water (apple cider vinegar with the mother....1Tbsp/quart of water--this is a stronger concentration than used...
A picture always helps....
Do you have oyster shell free choice? You should have some even if you're feeding them layer.
Might try a tsp of cider vinegar (natural with the mother)... it helps with many things including calcium absorption.

Quick tip...only clip one wing ....birds can learn to fly enough to go over a low fence if you clip both. By clipping only one side, it makes them be completely off balance.
That being said....Muscovies typically get fat and lazy..... what makes you think you need to clip their wings?
Food grade DE will not work for leg mites...but it's not bad to have around for other mites....
I rescued one chicken that had leg mites so bad that her scales were falling off....lets just say that the typical vaseline, olive oil, vicks, etc treatments were not enough. They would seem to start...
Red light is USUALLY not a problem, but it wouldn't be the first time that removing the light fixed some more agressive behaviors.
I personally like the chickens to work their order out on their own. The more you interefere by separating the longer the whole ordeal takes. They call it a...
That's very interestesting. I have several EE's and I can tell whose egg is whose by color, texture, and shape. The color seems to vary very little day to day, but they have consistantly gotten a little lighter in color as the years go by (mine are all 4+years old)
I Had the same problem.... I took some scrap wood and but a chicken sized opening in it and then attached that over the opening from inside the coop. Didn't have to change the door or mess with that part! Easy Peasy!
Sandra
ps. eggs make a good treat every ONCE IN A WHILE. So don't train...
I have both ducks and chickens....and I finally just decided to get duck feed and have oyster shells out free choice. Works great, I get tons of eggs....good healthy chickens. Oh they free range too which helps.
edited to add: I'm a firm believer that too much soy protein lowers egg...
Eggsellent!!!!
Your chickens will thank you for that!
Sandra
PS...you can also feed them sour dairy (milk, cottage cheese, sour cream etc)...You know, the one that ended up in the back of your fridge!
Many will say you don't need it if you have a good layer feed.
It is my opinion, that you should still have some out free choice. Some chickens just need more than others. It's SUPER CHEAP.
If you free range...they'll get a lot of calcium from the bugs.
Sandra
First, congrats on your eggs!
I agree it's because she's young...but trust me...if she doesn't calcium from bugs, feed, or oyster shells...she'll be robbing it from her bones soon enough.
Especially if your whole flock is not ready for layer feed....get some oyster shell out there free choice...
Bread is also good for warm mash on very cold mornings....just add bread to your feed with hot water and you can add all sorts of other things like
raisins, nuts, cut up meat leftovers, cracked cortn and other grains, etc..... I do this first thing in the morning when the temps are way low. It...
I'm lucky....I have 10 hens and 1roo (and 3 ducks) on 1/2 an acre....they free range and thus don't eat much feed at all.
Fresh greens make for wonderful quality eggs.... Making flats of wheat grass to trade in and out of the pen is a great way to supplement greens....As well as growing extra...
