It doesn't look like bumblefoot. It looks more like she recently cut her foot on something. This can lead to bumblefoot though. You can wrap it up using triple antibiotic ointment or honey. Manuka honey is best if you can afford it. I've tried a few types and unfortunately it does seem worth the...
Adding to what Wyorp said, I'd personally say it's better to wrap the foot even if you couldn't/didn't remove the scab. If the scab keeps getting irritated it takes forever to heal. Wrapping leads to less irritation and helps promote healing. I looked at the pics in the other thread. It is...
Based off this photo I would say it's a scuff mark of some kind. They can scuff up their combs pretty easily. I'd put some triple antibiotic ointment on it. A hen could have accidentally caused that by shaking her head if they roost closely together. He's very handsome!
Can you feel more of her bones than the other hens? Does she seem like she's starving?
As long as she's active and doesn't feel like a skeleton, I wouldn't worry too much.
Congratulations on her first egg!
Breed doesn't matter overall when it comes to a single hen. Every individual hen is different for every breed. Their environment and stress also plays a huge role in how often they lay. Some breeds that are known for laying less can have a hen that lays daily...
I'm not sure how separated they will be, but each rooster has individual goals in life. No two roosters are going to be the same. With that said, as long as they have access to the incoming threat, they have the potential to protect them. Some roosters absolutely would hop a fence to save a...
What are their ages? It can easily be stress. She's in a new environment and that can be very stressful to some more emotional sensitive hens.
Is it hot where you are? Is it hotter than she was used to? Is her crop full? She could have just drank too much to compensate for the heat. She could...
Serama are one of the best pet chickens. I put a towel down and we watch movies together. They will sit through the whole movie, contently watching the screen.
I'm sorry she is having body checked eggs. One of my Faiyumi has that issue. She just gets too excited by others sometimes. She'll run...
This is so true lol. They can go broody over nothing. A few of mine go broody for just 2 eggs! This is single handedly the most broody chicken in existence. Of course once they go broody, you lose one or two weeks of egg production every time. You have to collect eggs multiple times a day to...
She's got a really cute face! She's actually rather interesting. I think there's genetics in a lot of Serama that have bit of a choppy feather. I am completely guessing here, but I'm assuming it's from breeding them with the frizzled versions. I have some with the trait and others without it...
I'm sorry she looks like roadkill. I'm curious, I've never heard someone call their chicken roadkill lol. Do you have a picture?
What kind of calcium are you giving her? Using baked egg shell and a smaller blender can really speed up your life. They do eat the finer dusty stuff too.
$60...
She seems like she's definitely a dominant hen in general, but she's overcompensating for not being where she wants in the order. Maternal doesn't necessarily mean she has to treat others kindly. I have some very mean maternal hens lol. They make great mom's to their babies but treat everyone...
Serama breeder here. I'm assuming since you're asking about show quality, that you would like to get into breeding them? I enjoy helping other get into raising this breed, so I'll put a bit of info out there for those interested in their general egg laying habits and capabilities.
To follow...
I enjoy chicken's behavioral health topics. Adding a rooster back isn't necessarily going to stop them from being alphas either. I have an Andalusian hen who crows and even mounts other hens. She only gives it a break when she goes broody. I just wanted to add that Alpha hens also show up when...
How bad would you say the fighting is? Unless they are drawing mild amounts of blood, making wounds, or going for the eyes, it's just normal pecking order behavior. They are just coming of lay and that changes up the order a bit. It's also very normal for them to assert themselves for a favorite...
Separating her is probably not helping. When you say you released her, does that mean she was in a different area for brooding?
Unfortunately it seems she's fallen off the pecking order. Are you sure she is being attacked and not just pecked a lot? Pecking, which will look pretty bad sometimes...
Hello I'm an adoptions based Serama breeder in Tonopah Arizona, 85354. I adopt out 2+week old chicks, locally only. I didn't see anything against the rules of posting a website/blog to visit, so I'm hoping that's allowed (please let me know if it isn't). It's way harder to keep the list of...
The chemicals in the polish are bad for their lungs. Chickens/birds have really sensitive lungs. It won't kill the chicken but it's not healthy for them and could mildly damage their lungs. They might also peck at it. Especially if it's a chick. You can get away with super glue because it dries...
I didn't have time to figure out how to edit the post. Is it possible to edit? Here's updated pics of Hailey who I'm beginning to suspect is a Harvey. Woodstock, Mr Wings, and Nova. Added are Remi, Kelton, Forest and Mr. Flappy.
Lando, Kenny, Kelly (who wasn't listed) and September have all likely found homes. I'm going to deliver them this weekend. I'm updating the list with new pics shortly.
