Thank you :) I do know that tip. But the new newspaper is underneath for absorption and on top is old/weathered stuff that has more texture. I agree, if you just chucked them ontop fresh stuff they'd probably feel like they were at a ice rink 🤭
I didn't think about putting water into the...
Upwards of 90% hatch rate and still one/maybe two hatching. So if anyone find this thread and is in doubt about putting a hygrometer in and not following the manual about how much water to put in when, then I'd say go for it and see. I'm personally happy I put it in against recommendation by the...
Well, I kept it dry for the first 14 days and then filled both channels at lockdown. We are on the morning of day 17 and have 20 hatched from 71 eggs so far 😀 I have dividers in also.
I've had 3 cracked eggs, I think one was from transport but I'm wondering if when the turning trays move some of the smaller eggs sort of 'fall' to the other side? So maybe but can't say for sure :) I might try putting a spacer in the center of the groups of 4 next batch as a test haha
Idk if you know this (I didn't before I purchased) but the borotto lumia 16 does not have a humidity sensor in it. Just the temp and nothing else :) I have not had it through a full hatch so I can't back it but it seems like a quality machine? If a bit simple
Hi
So I'm not very experienced at incubation, most of our chicks were hatched from adults so I'm on a steep learning curve. Any advice on this would be amazing as I don't feel like I can contact the Borotto manufacturers again :/ I think they'd just tell me no hygrometer needed :/
So I set up my...
So is autumn amber just a roux crossed with an Italian? Because this chicks siblings (I assume) also include Italians. The different patterns and breeing really interest me :)
And if you breed a Pharaoh with an Italian will you just get some Italian, some Pharaoh and whatever else is in their...
I want to add to the securing the bottom of the pen because of predators. My neighbours dogs dug into our yard and then killed one of our quail before I caught them. I double the recommendation on adding mesh to the bottom and even a stake to hold the pen to the ground if its light weight.
Just wanted to add an updated pic of this chick incase anyone else is like me and scourers posts looking at info.
He is 5 weeks old today and I'm 90% sure male, no foam yet though. He was the smallest but also added the same amount of weight as the rest of the chicks, 100grams in 2 weeks...
Hi, i am new to quails and just got a bunch of 2 week old babies to start.
I think I have a handle on the feather seeing and should be good to vent sex the silvers I have once they reach maturity, however we have one that I don't know if it's an Italian and can be feather sexed or will need to...
Introducing myself 😁
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Not new as my family raised chickens for many years
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Zero! My dog is not a fan and so I'm keeping chicken and dog both safe by not having them 😫 however I have...
