I think I should also add her loegs do not appear to be splayed, they are not out at weird angles. One seems to be further back than the other. She can kick both legs.
I have chicks that are about 2 months old, one of them came to me with splayed leg. At the time she could stand, but she could not really walk, she was fall with every step. We have had her a couple weeks (shes in a brooding box with pine bedding) and she has since lost the ability to stand.

Good morning!
I received 3 chicks from a classroom that hatched them out. I am guessing they are somewhere around 2 months old. One of the chicks came to me and it cannot stand. It always falls to one side. The only issue I can see (from outward appearance) is a crooked toe. She pushes herself...
He wasn't supposed to be a rooster and we just ended up keeping him. We did not specifically want a rooster and we still don't really want a rooster but don't have the heart to do much else with him. I was hoping since he had such a large flock that the damage to hens would be min. It doesn't...
I have 1 rooster and 20 hens all just shy of 1 year old. The rooster has ripped out the feathers on the backs of most of the hens and some have bald spots on the backs of their heads. How long until the grow new feathers?
I have 23 laying hens. I am not sure of their exact age, maybe 8 months (ish) they have only been laying for about 3 months. We were up to 16 or 18 eggs a day as of a couple weeks ago. That number started receeding and has been stuck at 6. We've only been getting 6 eggs a day for the past week...
I don't know if this is an option in your household...but I feed my flock lots of scraps. My theory is we shouldn't be eating anything I wouldn't want to feed the chickens so we don't. I feed them pretty much everything except chicken. Bits left on everyone's plates after meals get combined...
I have a 30 week old barred rock. She is hatchery stock. She is laying these HUGE eggs. I do not have a scale so I am not sure the exact oz. but I can say they have a hard time fitting or not fitting in a standard egg crate. They are not double yolkers either. She seems to lay them almost every...
I have three brothers all in late teens 17-19, I got each one of them a snarky, funny book and something silly: bacon floss, breakup kit, etc. You know humor type gifts. Average $25 ea
My father, late 40s, I got what he asked for a denim shirt and a book, um $50ish total
my mom, late 40s, a...
My birds free ranged all spring and summer and now that the cold has set in they are in their enclosed run. I haven't been super impressed with the yolk color I have been getting. We have been feeding them the local tractor store brand feed. I was wondering what the best commercial feed is...
I put a second level in our coop and my chickens don't use it either. In fact, they all cram in the same corner (but that certainly makes it easier for clean up).
I have 8, 20 week old Barred Rocks. I was thinking they must be getting pretty close to laying age. Does anyone know at what approx age this breed starts laying? Is it time to start putting out optional calcium? I just noticed they have been eating the egg shells from our compost heap.
we use coop boots too! I think they are great b/c you can hose them off after. Mine still peck at my feet, could be zebra print pattern on the boots, though...
I have had good luck with running a radio at night in the coop. I also look the latches with a small padlock. We have one raccoon who tries to get our chickens all the time (I'm not going to lie, it's the cutest, fatest little thing ever) I know I can't kill it. I also know if you kill your...
My chickens were all younger. I think I had (8) 10 week olds and (8) 6 week olds. I started by putting the brooder in the coop at night. They were in a large enclosed cage, so the older girls couldn't snap at them. Then during the day, I let the older girls range, and the babies in the enclosed...
