    Feed for chicks

I feed my olive egger chicks pelleted feed, they are barely a week old. At what ages can I begin to introduce them to scratch, cracked corn, etc?

KC are supposed to be bad parents...?

Well, my hens were secretly laying eggs in an old henhouse and I was surprised to see them taking turns going in there throughout the day. They've laid a LOT of eggs. Good grief!

How do I get my ducks to like me more?

I hand-raised my KC ducks from ducklings, too. But they would rather behave like lemmings and act like I'm coming to eat them. Oh well. :p

Duck coop on the ground or raised?

    Thank you - I'm a bit of a worrywart.

Duck coop on the ground or raised?

I am going to build a simple coop for my ducks, but I don't know if I should place it one foot high above ground level, or on ground level (I've seen both). I have five KC hens that don't like climbing anything, but a pile of straw on the ground in the winter seems better than a raised floor.

    Duckling Gender

You can sex them right from hatching by vent checking them.

I think the Tractor supply store sold me geese instead of ducks...

Those are ducks for sure. At least you didn't get my bad luck. I ordered Khaki Campbells from chickensforbackyards.com (1 drake, 3 hens) and I got 5 hens instead. I talked to them and they only offered 2 choices - either order more so I can get the drake sent with that shipment, or just get my...

    Dark Campbell or Golden 300?

He looks like a 300. My KC don't look like that - especially the duckling photo.

Are any of these KC ducks drakes?

Two years experience, a little less. I didn't check when I got them as I assumed they had been sexed by the hatchery. I have sexed them since, and they are all female.

Are any of these KC ducks drakes?

It isn't...people haven't been reading my post! The point was that I bought 1 drake, 3 hens. I was sent an extra duckling as insurance, in case one of the others didn't survive. All did, and are thriving. They are also all hens.

    Super Africans VS African Geese

A Super African and an African are essentially the same goose. Super Africans are considered "show quality" and therefore cost more. Regular Africans are the same size, weight, temperament, etc. but are not considered show quality. But really, I've seen both and I can't tell the difference for...

Are any of these KC ducks drakes?

I know - but the ducklings are worth more.

Are any of these KC ducks drakes?

These Khaki Campbell ducks were hatched by a breeder and mailed to me. I originally ordered 1 drake and 3 hens, and received 5 newly-hatched ducklings (1 extra for insurance) on March 16th. All of them look like hens to me. The hatchery says to wait until they are 6 weeks minimum before deciding...

    Hello from NorCal

ANOTHER UPDATE!!! They are now 2 1/2 weeks old. The photo speaks to their phenomenal growth rate. When I received them (1 days after hatching) two fit in one of my hands. :woot

Good breeds for layers and roasters?

I want to get a large goose breed, one that would make for a good layer and also would be a good meat for smoking. Does anyone have any recommendations? I was thinking about Toulouse.

    Hello from NorCal

I am new to ducks and I just recently got five Khaki Campbells. I think they are two drakes and three hens but I might have only one drake. I got them mostly for the eggs, but I also want to learn to smoke duck meats. Next year I hope to add the same number of Anconas, and within a couple of...
