Chick unable to walk properly, need help identifying disease/injury/deficiency

Well shoot! I was misinformed. The only reason I added it was to keep them “warmer” in the colder months. Hopefully removing it helps. I’ll reintroduce later in smaller amounts.

Chick unable to walk properly, need help identifying disease/injury/deficiency

Good to know. We recently introduced the scratch for winter, so maybe they’re neglecting their regular feed and just eating the corn 🤔

Thanks for the link. How long would you say it took to see progress? I hate seeing him struggle.

Chick unable to walk properly, need help identifying disease/injury/deficiency

They have access to unlimited amounts of all flock and scratch grain at all times. I give a handful or two of scraps daily.

Chick unable to walk properly, need help identifying disease/injury/deficiency

Yes, I will upload as soon as possible. As of now he is pretty immobile. I do have a video of him from a day or two ago though that I will upload. At that point he was walking around on his hocks but still getting from point A to point B.

Hello! I follow BYC’s Facebook page but am unable to post anything because my Facebook account is relatively new. I have only been on Facebook for 3 months. All of my posts are automatically declined and the reasoning is that the moderators limit posting by new members to reduce spam. I need...

They’re on all flock crumbles, scratch feed, veggie scraps, and whatever they find when they’re foraging.

Chick unable to walk properly, need help identifying disease/injury/deficiency

I have a young chicken, about 2 months old. Last week he and one of his siblings began walking on their hock joints. I brought them indoors and made sure they had access to feed and water, they were eating and drinking well. I couldn’t find any injuries. I lost one of them 2 days later. He...

It must be. I love hearing about a happy adoption though!

Broody egg hoarder hen! Let her hatch all of them of or downsize?

Also! I left Lolita with 8 eggs that seemed more developed than the others when I candled them. Lots of movement and big ol eyeballs. 1 hatched on its own, 3 attempted hatching, 1 was assisted, 3 stopped developing at some point. I think they would have been successful if we hadn’t reach triple...

Broody egg hoarder hen! Let her hatch all of them of or downsize?

Chick update: One hatched successfully, one needed assistance hatching (membrane dried out from heat) and ended up passing after a day. The others didn’t make it, it seems they started to hatch but couldn’t make it in time before getting too hot. I didn’t realize they were hatching so early...

Broody egg hoarder hen! Let her hatch all of them of or downsize?

I moved her into her own coop yesterday, but I gave her all the eggs. Do you think I should just downsize to her 4 eggs to be sure they’re all on the same hatch schedule?

Broody egg hoarder hen! Let her hatch all of them of or downsize?

My bantam hen has managed to collect 16 eggs. Only 4 are her own. I was going to allow her to hatch her own 4 and was reluctantly going to allow her to hatch another 4 that were in the same stages of development.. but in the passing week she has managed to take in more eggs from other layers—...
