This girl is about 2 years old and I noticed she has her tail tucked for the last 3 days. We felt her belly, rear, and vent. Everything seems ok. We probed inside her vent to check for an egg, but did not feel anything. She is acting normal, otherwise. She is eating, drinking, scratching, and...
We found this when we examined her. It looks like the inside membrane from an egg. We did not feel anything when we checked inside her vent and her behind did not have any masses.
We feed feather fixer and they have oyster shell available at all times. They free range a couple hours each...
I am going to examine her tonight, but does her stance indicate anything? She has some fecal caking and is standing still a lot and staying away from the others. She didn’t come out to free range very much. Her eyes look kind of tired. She is a year old. I can’t say the last time she laid an egg.
We haven’t added anyone new or dealt with illness in anyone else. She is the only one having issues so far. Thank you. I will look for mites/lice more closely.
3 year old Welsummer hen
About a week and a half ago noticed left eye was red and slightly swollen. See picture 1. The following day she was placed in isolation and treated for one day with Veterycin pink eye spray. There was not much, if any, improvement. Began treating with Terramycin...
We acquired 10 hens last spring that were missing feathers on their lower backs and behinds. We were told they were 8 months old. We treated for external parasites twice with permethrin dust and internal/external parasites with pour-on Ivermectin twice two weeks apart. Their coop & run were...
Thank you. I have read that roosters’ feet are red from hormones, naturally, but since his aren’t completely red I was worried. It does look like he has new feathers coming in, too, in a lot of the red areas. I’ve never had one with feathers on their feet so I am not sure what’s normal. I did...
My first, and only, feather-footed rooster has some gnarly looking feet. He is 29 weeks old. I found him with a bloody foot, but it is no longer bleeding. There are no wounds or sores. I’m guessing it is from a broken pin feather because there appear to be some new ones starting. So, two...
It is, indeed! It will be funny if it’s the new girls. Three are supposed to be blue egg laying Ameraucanas from Tractor Supply (they lied because they clearly do not look like true Ameraucanas) and one was in a generic chick bin at Atwood’s, but I was expecting white eggs because I thought...
Sorry I’m afraid I have not been clear about ages. I have the following:
2 hens two years old or more. I’m positive one is laying because her eggs are easily identifiable.
10 hens about a year old who are laying.
3 hens that are 18 weeks. Only one with a comb that has grown and turning...
I have been finding an egg a day with some blood on the shell. I have four young hens, but only one whose comb has really started developing. One is about 22 weeks and the other three are about 18. I found 3 eggs today with blood on the shells. 2 mid-day and one in the evening. There weren’t...
