He has been very behaved since thankfully!! I haven’t had any more incidents! Not even a threaten. Hoping it was just a hormone surge week 😂 lol.
I will have no tolerance if it comes back again though, I have too many nice young cockerels that come through and deserve a chance to deal with this...
Luckily I haven’t had any more run ins with him, he moves well out of anyones way now. Potentially just have a bad week…. Lol. But if it does arise again I’ll be sure to cull him. I definitely know there are too many good boys out there!! ;)
I have checked them at night with torch and found no evidence of eggs near vent on neck or under wings. The coop is also only 5 months old and I’ve given it a proper clean. I will definitely give the paper towel trick a go though!
6 hens in the run look completely normal, no missing feathers...
I’m wondering if I have a feather picker. It’s driving me mad. I have 2 runs side by side with 2 separate flocks. One flock is perfectly fine while the other not so much.
I first started with 2 smaller hens that had average tail feathers growing back after their moult and thought they would...
Which I won’t. I have younger cockerels that will be more deserving of a place here, but they (parents) also really like this rooster so thought I’d see if there was a chance to break the behaviour. He will be gone if it cant.
Definitely agree. I was just hoping possibly a bit hormonal and his first spring with hens (in New Zealand) he hasn’t connected with me yet but he fluffs up and flies as to threaten me. He did connect with my parents though.
Hi all
I have 3 orpington chicks (new to the breed) that I just want clarification on what colours they’re going to be.
I’m thinking the light one splash and the other 2 a dark and light blue? Is this correct?
Thanks!
I only collected one days eggs for incubation (8 eggs laid out of 9 hens and 7 incubated) so it’s only possible for 2 of the 7 chicks to be cross bred. I did think I picked only purebred eggs as they are larger than the small hens one but I am just a bit confused at the fact 2 have far less...
Thanks for your reply, I thought the same but they just seem to be so much darker than the other 2 girls! I suppose I’ll just have to impatiently wait to find out!! :)
Hi everyone!!
I hatched my first lot of barred rock chicks coming up 6 weeks ago! I have a purebred rooster and 7 purebred hens which I collected eggs from. I also have a couple of other little hens that were in with them and I thought I was careful not to select their eggs for incubating. Now...
Hi all!
I have an 8 month old Barred Rock Rooster who has been great up until this weekend… We went away and I had my parents come and look after the animals.
He was attacking them when they let him out of the coop in the mornings and would threaten if they went into the runs to feed.
Since...
They’re super hard to get pictures of! I need practise lol. Excuse my bad photography.
I think the first 2 are cockerels, the 3rd I’m on the fence (but leaning to pullet) and the last 2 pullets?
Hi everyone!
Yesterday my first lot of barred rock chicks hatched!
Is anyone here familiar with sexing them at a day old? After reading google and looking at head spot and leg colouring, I think I have 3 pullets and 2 cockerels.
Would anyone else agree by looking at their head colouring?
Thanks!
