Hi all,
I took a look at my girls this morning and noticed black spots on their face and base of their combs, and they are covered in mites. We have had mites a long time ago at the base of their feathers about four years ago that we’ve managed to prevent from happening with Keeping their dust...
Hi Everyone,
My hen has developed a small white Pok mark on her waddle just on the one side I took one picture from last week and another picture from this week. It’s gotten slightly bigger, but does not necessarily look aggravated. Does anyone know what this might be? should I be concerned or...
Turns out it was a piece of food 😂 I was concerned because we had a heat wave and was worried it was something to do with the continual panting to keep cool. Thank you for your reply.
Hi all,
So with recent heat waves in my area (90-98) my chickens have been getting hot and panting unfortunately. With that today I was looking at one of my ladies giving them fresh cold water and noticed while she was panting that she had something on her tongue. Anyone seen this before? She’s...

Look up Justin Rhodes you tube video’s he has great ideas on how to feed your chickens organically and for a low cost. Good luck 🍀 the struggle is real I feel ya.
Turns out she did have mites! I’ve bathed them all and treated with diatomaceous earth. I threw there coop away because it was covered. I also sprayed them with a holistic repellent of garlic juice, lavender oil, and spearmint and treated all areas with more diatomaceous earth and been oil...
I’ve heard mixed reviews on that. One gentleman that has 60 chickens told me that he tends to still feed his adult chickens chick grit because trying to feed them adult grit he hast to end up smashing it down anyway because they won’t eat the big rocks. So that chick grit was actually a better...
Hahaha 🤣 I love it Jolene, that’s awesome. If I put a flash light on it in the dark what happens will I see movement or glowing? Lol what should I look for?
Thanks for responding by the way.
Hi All!
Me again I just want to get opinions on this one. It looks like dirt to me and we did recently have a sprinkler break and create some wet dirt in the run that’s drying out. Of my 4 chickens Dolly Parton (that’s my chicken) she’s the only one who has it. Checked her vent and neck area...
That’s what I thought as well in regards to disease that she would have shown signs or been dead by now. I appreciate all of advice @azygous thanks you very much! This helps put my mind at ease since I will be introducing these two into my current flock end of August when there 60day quarantine...
Omg! Thank you 🙏🏻 yes the poop is very solid just green. I dont feed her that much greens or green food so that’s why I’m confused as to why it’s green. Could it be New Castle disease? She’s doing much better energy wise now I think it was just heat related, but still pooping green. 😬
If you do a shallow aluminum chafing dish you can get a big one at Smart and Final for cheep add ice with water. They can drink it to stay cool or stand in it. I dipped there feet in it first so they got the idea of what to do and now my gens love it when it gets hot out.
I’m not sure but if anyone on the forum does know, that would be an amazing tool. I’m currently working on trying to re-home my rooster. Thanks for asking this question.
