    Magicfly Incubator trouble

Day 7…we are going to start hand turning them for sure. I just wish I had checked the auto turner on day 1.

    Magicfly Incubator trouble

I labeled my eggs A-H and checked them over the course of a day. I’m pretty sure mine is not turning them especially after candling them yesterday. I’m very disappointed because I don’t think many of them are going to survive.

    Incubation mishap

So, we decided to incubate some eggs. On day 6, I opened the incubator to add water and forgot to line up the turner peg in the slot. This is my first go at it. They went two days without turning. After candling, I saw that the embryos are still active but the yolk has migrated to the shell...

    Cockerel is not behaving

I have a flock of 18 week pullets and a cockerel. We also have 4, 8-week old pullets that we are slowly introducing to the flock. A couple times, a younger pullet has escaped the enclosure and the cockerel is ready to attack, pecking and stomping on the younger one. I’m getting a little...

    Pullet or Cockerel

I have two chickens (about 10 weeks old) an Amberlink and an Easteregger, that I am trying to determine the gender of. Pictures below. I have learned this season that I am not very good at sexing chickens.

    Hi There!

Well, I think 5 out of 17 are Roos which could wreak havoc on my flock (at least that is my limited understanding). We plan on on keeping 1 or 2 if all 5 are roosters.

    Too Many Roos???

I’m new here but would like some help with sexing my chicks. I have 17 ranging from 4 weeks to 8 weeks old. About 5 of them have been demonstrating sparring behavior: 2 jersey giants, 1 lavender Orpington, 1 amberlink, and 1 silver-laced Wyandotte. The last 3 are the youngest and are pretty...

    Hi There!

My family and I just moved to the “country” and I am restarting my chicken adventure after a 10 year hiatus. We started with 4 buff Orpingtons, 2 Eastereggers, and 2 Jersey Giants. A few weeks later, I picked up 5 Lavender Orpingtons, a Sapphire Gem, 1 Black Copper Maran, 1 Silver Laced...

Lethargic Buff Orpington--seems broody but pale comb

I have a small flock of various birds and one is a 2-year-old Buff Orpington. About 2 weeks ago she started acting broody. I would take her out the nesting box and collect the eggs but she would continue to go to the same box. After a week of this, I took her to the vet. The vet told me she...

:( Lost 2 chickens this week...What could it be?

Something has gotten into my coop this week and has gotten two of my hens, two different times. I live in Central Florida. All that remains is feathers, nothing else. I don't know if it is the same predator but eggs are also being eaten, leaving broken shells in the nesting boxes. My...
