Hi! A few new someones are laying in my flock. aWe have 3 currently laying pretty routinely (the light and dark green eggs) but trying to guess who these recent egg colors belong too - the light brown orange ish and the purple pink.
Of the 5 newest to be laying include these breeds:
Sapphire...
Five babies I am hoping are girls, were purchased from Rural King on 11/22.
They were listed as:
1. Sapphire Gem
2. Golden Comet
3. Silver Laced Wyandotte
4. Cinnamon Queen
5. Sapphire Gem
Thank you both! The picture with the outline is what I needed, because I kept looking at their neck feathers.
So it's the darkening spots into a point, not necessarily the individual feather?
They are pretty friendly boys, think they will keep this personality or will they get more aggressive...
These two (hopefully) ladies were sold to me as Easter Eggers and are about 14 weeks old. Would be my first EEs and curious if correct. Has anyone gotten any fun egg colors from EEs?
The lighter one (with a mohawk?, lol) , first in the picture line up, her name is Elaine and her darker sister...
Update on these two!
Grey (Janet) has reddened quite a bit more.
Brown (Henrietta) still more of a pink, than a red, but has gotten fairly large. He is pretty friendly and doesn't mind being picked up.
A prior poster had said his neck feathers are sex linked, what does that mean exactly that so...
An update.. She (believe she's a she) is about 4.5 weeks now and seems to be doing much better. Less wobbly, more stable, still smaller than the other 4 but not as drastic of a difference. Eating and drinking regularly.
Haven't had pasty butt in a couple weeks, so hoping she's going to pull...
Thank you for posting!
She's been doing slightly better, eating and drinking a bit more, but still avslow grower and a bit topsy turvey.
Her vent looks to be having ongoing pasty butt, or maybe even vent gleek? This is a first for me and just going off some googling research.
We've been adding...
It's a fairly large plastic storage tub, and only the one side stays above 90, the other is low 80s but I don't think any of them really venture over to that side yet - at least not for long. Can tell by minimal poop and overall less mess, haha.
Going to try grinding up the food, she does seem...
Hi!
A week ago 11/23 had picked up 5 baby chicks all said to be couple days old from Rural King - all very similar size when purchased:
Sapphire Gem x2
Cinnamon Queen
Silver Laced Wyandotte
Golden Comet (I think is what they called her?) - is the mini
Couple photos of her and the cinnamon...
Hi again! I've been trying to google more information about the sex-specific feathering but only articles I keep finding is checking the feathers within their first day or two. Wondering if you have any websites or info can share about this to help learn more ways to distinguish girls vs boys?
For helping me learn, what makes it sex specific? The darker part before it hits the orange ish brown?
What would be your best guess at part of the breed mix?
Bummer, already was pretty sure Grey was a rooster but had my hopes up on the other since it didn't have much red
Is the blue cochin red waddles the giveaway? Or are there other things? These are my first chickens and trying to learn as much as I can. Watching them grow has been really fun and have enjoyed learning more about them
