so I also just hatched these out, and was told they're purebred white Ameraucana... is it true that their legs can darken as they age? this just seems so light to me,and their feathering is so dark... but I've never hatched white Ameraucana.
I hatched out 4 eggs. they were from a 1, blue Ameraucana over blue and white Ameraucanas and a cream legbar, and from 2, an Easter Egger pen. am I correct here?
brown is a legbar cross, black is an Ameraucana, and the two lighter babes are Easter Eggers? eggs weren't labeled.
my brain is fried, trying to understand these genetics. is this correct? can anyone share photos? I'm breeding specifically with silkies and satins, but any pics help.
dun x dun = 1/4 khaki, 1/4 black, 1/2 dun
dun x blue = 100% platinum
I know most silkies are recessive white. however, say I have a black pen and a white pen - can I switch the roosters to see what colors are behind each white, or would there be a better color than black to use?
I'm looking for some better understanding.
what EXACTLY is the difference between the three?
not just the genetics - but what colors/patterns go with each?
I'm seeing ads for all three (projects) but honestly... many look the same.
so... if I bred a Mille Fleur to some black and blue hens, and then bred the F1's back to the Mille Fleur, only the mottling would come through, correct? (even in the next few generations) it wouldn't be any of the Columbian?
I'm in the Midwest. Wisconsin, to be exact. its not uncommon to have negative temps, even a "polar vortex" of -40F in winter, and 90F in summertime.
if you're in a climate such as mine, how do you house your silkies? this will be my first year having them apart from my LF/feathered birds...
I'm turning most of my focus to breeding silkies. while I have researched, and further will, I'm looking for your personal experience and opinions. this site has helped me shape my entire program so far! (photo of my Delores, because she's sweet.)
the genetics of satins and frizzles.
1. what...
so I'm getting a flock from someone local.
roosters: silver and wheaten
hens: silver, black, and blue wheaten
what colors could I possibly get if I put the silver roo in with the hens vs if I used the wheaten?
no, it's not. she needs electrolytes formulated for chickens. some may say "it's better than nothing" but things that are good for us, are toxic to them.
what?! I literally just posted a few seconds ago, amazed after learning that silked Ameraucanas are a thing... and now I see there are silked cochins too!? how cool.
I JUST learned they exist... and they're purebred! Silkies & Ameraucanas are my "specialty" breeds. tell me more? where they're found? how the heck anyone figured out how to silk an Ameraucana without using a Silkie???!
