Sold my first dozen of eggs today!

$3/doz is very reasonable! Our healthfood store sells them for $5.50/doz (and they are the owner's chickens) OUCH! Also, when I looked at the eggs 4 of them were tiny pullet eggs. Cute, but not gonna fill my belly... and for $5.50... $3 is a bargain!!!

Chicken weak, lost weight, pale comb

Laverne is steadily improving on her diet of hot dogs. SHe flew out of her sick bed today and spent the day roaming the yard. She is stronger a little bit more every day. We are so happy and proud of her!! The other chickens don't remember her and were picking on her... so we will have to wait...

Chicken weak, lost weight, pale comb

Qi, Again... I didn't "know" at first what the heck was going on. Just knew that pale comb and weakness were signs of anemia and was thinking that it was worms or mites causing it. If you want to rule out mites, check your chickens at night after they are sleeping on their roosts. Red mites...

Chicken weak, lost weight, pale comb

Elmo, I agree... I think the mites did her in... and probably gave the coccidia a chance to flourish. All other chickens are healthy and happy. Today Laverne was *almost* b*itchy.... which must mean she is on the mend. She Is occasionally "standing" although her foot isn't open... she was...

My little Laverne is pretty much in the same state... no worse, no better. I have been feeding her hotdogs, of all things.... she has refused every healthy concoction I could dream up. Just like a kid!! I finally took a stool sample to the vet yesterday... result: she has coccidia... the vet is...

I haven't wormed her. She really doesn't have any worm symptoms! Add to that... which wormer to use when there are no symptoms... which type of worm am I trying to get rid of?? I do not want to stress her out by giving her too many treatments.... she is receiving vitamins daily... I have...

PLEASE HELP Hen with something hanging out the back??? GRAPHIC PIC!!!

That looks like a prolapsed vent. Wash it off with warm water and gently insert it back inside her. Add some preparation H cream to decrease the swelling. This can happen when a chicken lays an egg that's too big for her to pass.

Reasonable length of time for chicken recovery?

Hello, I posted a week ago regarding my 4 mth old hen who wasn't walking right and was pale.... turned out she had a massive mite infestation. Anyhow, I've had her isolated for the past week, in her little "sick room" in our house. She is eating/drinking some, although I did need to force...

sick hen! anyone know whats wrong?

I have a hen with the same symptoms. She is crazy-infested with Northern Fowl Mites. The were sucking her dry. Turn your hen over and look through the feathers around her vent. You might see the little buggers crawling on her skin and she would have some scabs around her vent. If so, dust her...

Chicken weak, lost weight, pale comb

hello! While waiting for a reply, I scanned a bunch of older posts. There was one with a GREAT link to pictures of chicken poo. Her poo is "normal" with sloughing of intestinal lining. So, I decided to go over her body from head to tail... check skin, eyes, etc for ANYTHING... and lo and behold...

Chicken weak, lost weight, pale comb

Hello, I am very concerned about one of my girls. She was walking funny yesterday and sort of crouching on the ground. She is usually VERY feisty, but I was able to go up to her and pick her up without any problems. Her legs are weak, her comb and around her eyes are pale. She doesn't seem...
