Hi! I'm new here to BYC and I LOVE it. We live in Sunny San Diego with our zoo
of animals. We have all sorts of creatures from mice to dogs to frogs. My
heart belongs to the ducks though. My boy Wendall was my 1st. He hatched along
with 4 other siblings. He was the first to pip but the last...
Thanks everybody for your feedback. I felt like such a bonehead for not looking into that BEFORE it became an issue. It's good to hear I'm not alone. The rest of the ducklings are doing great though and Papa Duck is just haging out on the other side of the pen, happy as a clam.
My duck is hatching her first clutch of eggs today and the father is in there with them. The first two ducklings out were fine and looked healthy earlier today but I just found them dead outside of the nest. Mom is still on the nest with the other eggs and hatchlings. The two dead ones both head...
ejctm,
Thanks for the adult pic of your runner. Her duckling pic looks just like my three crosses, only they don't have the stature of a runner. I can't wait to watch them mature.
We just hatched a Silkie x Production Red cross today. Over the last three weeks I've been on this site browsing for any pics of a similar type cross but I didn't find too much. So I figured I'd post some pics in case anyone else ever needs the reference.
Here is a pic of the Silkie father and...
I just hatched a Silkie x Production Red cross today. The chick came out with feathered legs, the extra silkie toe, and the feathering on her head. here's a pic of the Silkie father and the Production Red mother...
This isn't the actual mother. just a pic I found on the internet. Looks just...

No, no, not the air sac. the egg white. I have duck eggs that still have another week to go and still look further along than the chick.
Ahhh,.. a lot of growth happens in the last week.. also some evaporation happens...
Is this your first time candling eggs?
If they have a week left...

the chick will not fill the entire egg,... the blank spot you are seeing is the air sac.. put it back in the incubator
No, no, not the air sac. the egg white. I have duck eggs that still have another week to go and still look further along than the chick.
I was about to post the EXACT same problem. The chick is right on time at day 19 but it doesn't look like it has filled out the egg. just as described by the original posting, it looks like there's more albumin in there. here's a pic of the egg.
Thanks to everybody for your feedback and pictures. It was just what I was looking for. I will definitely post pictures of the little ones as soon as they hatch . I can't wait!
Okay, so I have three fertile duck eggs in the incubator and they are due in about 8 days. I'm just chomping at the bit because I'm dying to know what these little ones are going to look like. The momma is a black Indian Runner duck or maybe she's chocolate. We ordered a black and a chocolate...
I've gotta go with the with the Brinsea Mini Advance. Refreshingly easy to use and holds a steady temp day and night. Choose Advance over Eco. The extras are well worth the $$$.
My Brinsea Mini Advance hatches up to 7 eggs at a time. I purposely bought a small one to help me resist the temptation of hatching every egg my chickens and ducks lay. It really is addictive.
The Mini Advance by Brinsea is better than I imagined. Aside from having to add water to the resevoir...
I'm using a Brinsea Mini Advance. It holds up to 7 Chicken / Duck eggs and comes with SO many wonderful extras.
I just made the switch from a styrafoam bator to this Brinsea and I will NEVER go back. With the Hovabator-style incubator I struggled with keeping the temp. steady and I lost...
