The eggs are going to work with my wife first. She is giving them to one of her students as a project. She is a special ed teacher and this students family is raising chickens. Actually the student is pretty much raising them on his own with support of the family. They already have some silkies...
Some friends of my wife want to incubate and hatch some of my RIR eggs. What is the best way to transport them and take care of them until they can get them in the incubator?
When I grew up my family taught me to be resourcefull, use what you have to get by. Right now I don't have a tiller, or any regular pots, or anything to pot with, or much money. But, I was tire poor. So, I used what I had to get by and make do. I used the resources I had available to me to...

Sorry, wasn't trying to be disrespectful to you. Was only offering scientific facts as to possible/probable results of consuming food grown this way.
I NEVER called you a bad dad either. Hopefully you are a concerned father, & will do your own research. Some of what you posted to me...

It is a pretty common practice down here too. I have a friend in England who plants potatoes in old tires cause she lives in a small neighborhood, with small yards.
And, uhm, planting for your chickens? You betcha!! Chickens gotta eat, just the same as you! Our chickens get lots of...

Gosh, Ed, thanks. I sure thought my post would have gone a better direction. Me, the missus, and my younguns do what we can together as a family. We try our best to raise 'em up right. So far, so good I think. Thanks again Ed. It was a pleasure chatting with ya.

Yup, your right. I was stupid to think this was the place for me to show off my stupid self and my stupid tires, and my stupid chickens. Alright, I'll be stupid. But, I won't be stupid here any longer. Cancel me out on this forum. Ya'll have fun. And, thanks to those of you who were...
Well folks, I guess I'm just going to have to rock on with my tires. I sure didn't mean to be disrespectfull to anyone except the one who was disrespectfull to me. And, I do appologize to all the folks who may have read both of our posts.
Where I come from it's very disrespectfull to try and...

Our chickens only free range when we can be outside supervising them. We have a couple of dogs that would love to get a hold of one. Also, there are lots of dogs in the neighborhood. So, we are very carefull with letting them out.
Oh yea, it'll get enough sun. They are in direct sunlight right there for the most part. The grass is dead because we killed it with round up prior to doing the tire garden. It's a bit hard getting a mower in there so we wanted the grass taken care of prior to planting. The plants that vine out...
Your wife and son are planting veggies in tires, your chickens are free ranging in the backyard, and the chicken coop has a tarp for a roof with plywood wired to the front wall for a wind break.
Here's a pic of the new baby chicks. Sorry for the lighting. The heat lamp sorta messed with it. Can ya'll give me an idea of the breed of the chicks? TSC just had a little sign on the brooder saying they were assorted pullets.
Hi ya'll! Well, me and the family are REALLY getting into this chicken raising thing. We went to TSC on Saturday to get a few things like wood chips and feed for the rabbits and chickens we already have. Well, they had several brooders full of chicks. My youngest son, the one in my sig pic...
For someone who does not shoot often I would forget the rifles or pistols. Go with a good solid shotgun. A good 12ga with 1 1/8oz loads of 6's or 4's will take out any coon, possum, skunk, or even a yote or dog at close range. I wouldn't hesitate to use it out to about 40yrds. Use full choke...

I'm new to chicken raising. How do you give wormer? I know that sounds like a dumb question. But, gosh I need to know how. Cause I don't want my new chickens to get sick from worms. I'm trying to learn all I can and appreciate any info ya'll could give on it.
