Introducing 9 week old coturnix hen to existing group

I hated a single coturnix hen 9 weeks old and would like to add her to one of my breeding groups that needs another hen. I’m concerned about them being aggressive though. Any tips for doing this? Is it better to put her with them in the evening before they bed down for the night? Do I need to...

Newly hatch quail chicks distress chirping

The one with crooked toes didn’t make it. I’m not sure what happened but the other is doing great! It’s about 3 weeks old and I’m 90% sure it’s a female. Right before these hatched, I lost a hen out of one of my breeding groups. Actually lost her. She flew out while I was feeding and watering...

Newly hatch quail chicks distress chirping

I noticed it when he was still in the incubator so I would assume it wasn’t a cold brooder floor. It could have been my fault. I let the humidity get low a couple times but I’m not sure so I will probably cull it later on. It does seem to get around just fine though.

Newly hatch quail chicks distress chirping

I do have another question though. One seems to have bent toes. Is this something that will straighten out over time or is it a concern?

Newly hatch quail chicks distress chirping

They were fully dry when I checked them this morning! The humidity did go up to about 75% yesterday after their hatch. They’re doing great now! Thank you!

Newly hatch quail chicks distress chirping

This is my first hatch on coturnix quail. Two hatched sometime today. I’m not sure what time exactly but I noticed them around 12:30pm. I have other chicks in a brooder close by so I didn’t notice the chirping at first. They seem to be doing well but they are chirping very loudly and seem almost...

    What breed are these?

Wow! I've never seen a roo without spurs unless it was an injury. That's strange!

    What breed are these?

Yeah.. I'm not real familiar with all of these hybrids. We've raised chickens for years but never hybrids. I did a little research on olive eggers and I understand the "based off a cream legbar" part of that now. That's super interesting! Kinda wish I had bought more than two now lol

    What breed are these?

The "Dominiques"? The reds or cream color are the Rudd Rangers. I know that for sure.

    What breed are these?

I bought 6 Rudd Rangers and 2 Dominiques from rural king about a month ago. The Dominiques were marked as Polish but the employee said they had been marked with a question mark but someone flipped the sign and he believed they were actually Dominiques and mislabeled. They didn’t have tufts on...

    Oyster shell for quail

Mine loved cantaloupe from the garden this summer! I just threw the rinds that had a bit of melon left on it after cutting in their cages and they’d eat it down almost through the green! Tomatoes and lettuce were hit or miss. I think I’m going to start sprouting micro greens for them in small...

    Oyster shell for quail

My Roos have been mating with my hens every chance they get since the hens started laying so I would assume, as long as there is a roo with them, they’re most likely fertile eggs.

    Oyster shell for quail

Thank you! We always did that with our chickens so I do have some experience with that but I won’t be adding lighting this year.

    Oyster shell for quail

When do your quail start slowing down on egg production? We had a week of very hot weather (heat index of 106) and now it’s cooled way down (70s during the day). We’re still getting about 13-14 hours of daylight but I haven’t gotten any eggs in a little over 2 weeks out of 8 hens total. I...
