I've always raised Cornish x with my fancy layer hens. One time I kept a Cornish, named Lucky of course, because I missed her during processing. She became our double yolk Queen of the laying hens. All her eggs were double yolked, don't know if she could have reproduced as we never tried to...
I rescued several broilers from people who didn't have a clue and most of them did not even know how to walk they were so over fed and barely had room to turn around. So they have mostly gotten much better, actually running sometimes! But many of them have the black callouses on their feet...
Wow, almost sounds like it's Vet time, but otherwise you are doing all the right things! Just tonight had a girl get the same treatment but not nearly as bad as yours. definitely isolate and keep away from pests, flys etc!
I would like to try this on my "rescue" chickens. 22 held in a 3X9 cage with flies and fecal matter, fed high powered finishing feed, broilers! Crazy! Now I've got them and they get to free roam two acres but many have large black "callous" on bottom of feet although not red or puffy. Can't see...
I butchered several of my Cornish rock chickens this week. Not my first rodeo but first time I did more than one at a time. They were in rigor rather quickly - should I have allowed them to come out of it before freezing or is it ok to freeze them in that condition?
How funny. I saw this thread and just had to look. I am a real annelid farmer - real worms not "superworms". But my chickens think my worms are quite "Super for Supper". Whenever I am harvesting the birds all come around my barn windows, giving me the eye - just in case I have an extra few...
My 4 week old chicks are dropping one by one. They all seem fine and I find one unstable -falling over very warm to the touch eyes closing- every day it seems I have another one. Are they having issues due to rapid growth?
I've just started a new flock of chickens and am thinking about adding a half dozen or so Turkeys to my 10 layers. Is this a good idea to raise them together?
Would the lack of a Rooster be my hen's problem? They lost the boy about 5 months ago and I have not been able to find a replacement - so I will be raising some new in the spring. My hens layed eggs all through last winter but this year - nothing!
Nope this is really white - I've looked at them in all kinds of light, even checked it against those nasty store bought eggs - it's white! I do get some pale tan ones, mostly from my Yokos or my buff mottled houdan but they lay smaller eggs Maybe someone is sneaking into the coop???
Ok, someone is slipping me a mickey! Every day now my brown and colored egg layers are laying one white egg = of course I have no clue who is doing it! Does this happen normally or is it a deficiency problem? I'm such a newbie!
Mine were later than some but now I get at least every other day eggs from them. I have 17 hens and get 11 to 12 eggs a day usually half are blue I have four Auracanas and one EE for colored eggs the rest are brown - except someone started laying WHITE eggs!! None of mine are white egg layers -...
I was sooo lucky with my order last May - Only one Roo and it was a Buff Orph. which I've heard are great tempered birds. Well, He is now intent on attacking anyone who gets too close, gets between him and a female or just looks cross eyed at him. I've kneed him away - chased him back, taken a...
