I have no idea what we have here

Another question then. When will he start crowing? He should be about 4 months old now. When we've had roosters in the past they were crowing by now.

I have no idea what we have here

I'm sure my newbie-ness is showing its self. This is our second flock. We have 27 birds right now. Our first flock was only 5. A friend bought them from us since he wanted hens already laying eggs. I sell my eggs to co-workers and would hate to give them an egg they wished they hadn't cracked...

We rescued 2 chickens a short time after Easter. However I have no idea what breed they are. I'm also curious about gender. I really think 1 might be a roo. Sorry they are not the best pictures. Any idea's??? These 2 stick together. We have another 25 that we added these 2 with. They have...

    Our coop and hen house

My husband built our coop. He sided it with old pallets and then stained it. I love it!

The Cornish Rock is our second one. I believe this one is a hen. The other was obviously a roo, especially after he started crowing! My husband "took care" of that one and he is currently in our freezer. I'm not sure what to do with the other one. Will she lay eggs? How long DO they live? If she...

Thanks! We have a nice coup and run my husband built but we've never let the chicken range in the yard. We have an acre and we worried they'd be too hard to get back in the coup. We had 3 small chickens back in May that gotten eaten by something (it had gotten in the first coup we had). So...

Savingdogs, what type of food would make a difference? We have chicken feed from the feed store but also give them our leftover table scraps alot. We had read it was a good idea to do.

The idea of eating a fertilized egg is not appealling. The hen's haven't started laying eggs yet. They are 4 months old. How old before they lay eggs again? I thought I remember it being about 6 months.

Thank you everyone for the info. My other concern is that I don't want any fertilized eggs. How long do you have before the egg would be fertilized, if I kept the rooster?

Hi. My name is Dawn. My husband and I are raising chickens for the first time. We have 7 birds. They are about 4 months old. We were told we have 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Americana's, 2 Barred Rocks, and 1 Cornish Rock. We know we have a rooster, we've heard him in the morning the last 2 mornings...

    New Here and very excited!

Hello all! My husband and I are raising chickens for the first time. We have 7 birds. They are all 4 months old. We have 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Americana's, and 1 Cornish Rock. We are raising them for eggs only, not for more chicks. We heard a crowing the other morning so it...
