I have 3 Black Sex Links that are two years old and they rarely lay an egg anymore. I get about 3 - 4 eggs total a week. They are not molting or under any stress or diseases that I am aware of. Someone told me they are good layers for a year or two that burn out quickly. Does anyone know if this...
Well sad to say...I opened the bator yesterday to rotate the eggs and there was an odd odor. It was coming from the egg with the duct tape. I'm not sure if it was the tape warming up or the egg breaking down. I sadly had to discard it as to not contaminate the others. Sad but a valuable lesson...
It was a small crack on the pointier side of the egg. I put about half inch of duct tape over it. It seems to be holding tightly as there is no fluids leaking out. I'm going to check tonight and see if there is any movement while candling again. Thanks
I was candling an egg when it slipped down the tube and hit the flashlight. It cracked on the end and I saw a tiny spot of blood. I panicked and grabbed some duct tape and placed it over the crack. It seems to have sealed but now I'm reading wax is the best solution. I can't pull the duct tape...
I would suggest selling hatchling eggs. Ebay is a great place to start. I dont sell any but I do buy the specific breed I want from ebay and will be going back for more.
Yes! I found all four of my welsummer eggs that I put under my broody momma ice cold one evening with her nowhere to be found. This was two weeks into the process. I thought well, what the heck....in the bator they go. Two have hatched this weekend! I dont think that the other two will make it...
Im not really sure there really is much more you can do. I wouldnt disturb him in the bator. Let nature take it's course. Hopfully he'll pull through. It sounds like you have learned a lot. Best of luck. Many chicken prayers coming your way.
Its my first time hatching....I have a welsummer who is ready to enter the world. The egg is rolling around everywhere with constant chirping! This has been going on for 6 hours. Is there ever a time to step in and help? Need some advice.
Make sure you are not adding too much water. It needs to evaporate slowly. Standing water will form a slime. Also make sure you have vent at the top. Good luck!
