I checked all over for mites or anything that did not look right. I checked another chicken and she also had a smaller balding spot. I watched the chickens for a few hours and saw the third one pluck out a feather, so at least now I know what is going on.
I sprayed both girls with blu-kote...
My chicken has a bald patch on her bottom. I can’t tell if she pulled out the feathers or if her abdomen is swollen, or both. She is 5 months old and 2 of my three chickens just started laying(I’m not sure if she is one of them). Here is a pic, her vent is just above my top finger.
I can stick my hand in and nothing feels sharp, but I think there is one edge that I could round out more with some sandpaper. I’ll give that a try too.
I am new to chickens. My pullets are 20 weeks old. They have been in their coop since 8 weeks. They all three seem to have beak injuries and I can’t figure out why.
Here are pictures of each bird and of the coop setup. Two of them were bleeding today, the yellow one broke the tip of her beak two...
Coop update: I added vents between the rafters and a solar powered fan. Chicks seem to like it so far!
I’m still going to install a nesting box on this side. They have oregano, lavender and sunflowers growing in their garden.
Everytime I try to look up what to do, I get 100 different answers. It seems like more than one thing might work, but I’d really like some guidelines 😊
My Ameracauna is 7.5 weeks old in these pictures. She has been bigger than my other 3 chicks since the start, has thick legs and a bigger head. She is highest in the pecking order.
Is she a huge hen? Or a rooster?
Help! I am brand new to chickens and I just moved my 4 pullets out to their 3x5 coop. I put two bags of horse pellets in the bottom and it’s 2-3 inches deep. (I have enough space for 6 inches of litter)
How do I clean it? Do I try and pick the poop out? Mix it into the pellets? Keep adding more...
My coop is getting close to done and I’m excited for my chicks to move in. I need an awesome name for my coop. My house is called Hogwarts and each of my 4 birds is named after a character: Pansy, Luna, Susan and Rose.
What’s a great name for the coop that will look like a cute blue cottage? It...
I found another post suggesting a bath for the smelly chick so I will give her a wipedown with a washcloth then a blow dry.
Update: she smells much better now, only a faint funk. I'm guessing because I didn't use soap or submerge her. She loved the blowdryer on low with the diffuser.
I'm brand new to chickens. I got 4 different breeds and I'm worried if my 3 week old chicks are each doing ok.
I got them at 3 days old. They have been inside near me and I watch them all the time. They are in a 2.5x4ft dog crate with wood shavings and a brooder plate. They eat medicated starter...
I tried giving them wet feed and three of them absolutely loved it! They were hopping into my hand and giving me little pecks. The last one seems shy, but hopefully she’ll catch on when she sees the other ones get excited.
