Advice on chickens not hatching, guessing they are at about 19-20 days.....

Thanks guys, I possibly wasn't clear in my first posting. The chicks hatched day 21 as you'd expect and the hens sat for another 3 days so as soon as the hens left the nest, we cracked open the eggs knowing there was no chance. 3 healthy frizzle chickens in toe! Cheers.:)

Advice on chickens not hatching, guessing they are at about 19-20 days.....

Thanks Ridgerunner.....I hadn't known about the frizzle gene. Makes me realise what a true novice at this I am. There's good information in that article too. A lot of food for thought to take into consideration. Thanks for getting back to me, most helpful. Cheers.

Advice on chickens not hatching, guessing they are at about 19-20 days.....

Hi all, Hoping to get some advice.... I recently ordered a dozen fertile frizzle eggs. Some I put straight under one of my broody females, the others I kicked off in the incubator until a week or so later when another hen went broody. So I then put the remainder of the eggs under her (that...

Will broody chooks accept an orphaned wood duckling?

Thanks for that Bemba. Question - I have another broody silkie hen (she's not sitting on anything). Do u think it would be worth seeing if she would take the duckling seeing as she's not had anything to imprint on? Worst case the duckling will be raised in the brooder (which we've done...

Will broody chooks accept an orphaned wood duckling?

Hi there, I have a silkie hen that hatched 3 chicks yesterday. Today (I am with Wildcare) an orphaned black duckling came into our care so I popped it under the silkie hen with chicks hoping for the best. This afternoon we found the duckling hiding out under some plants in the enclosure. Is...

    2 Drakes - Aggression advice......

Thanks for getting back to me. We'd entertained the thought of getting females but aren't quite ready to expand to the numbers I understand we'd need (3 p/male = 6 in total). I'd be really loathe to re-home one of them - they've become part of the family - albeit a little insane at the moment...

    2 Drakes - Aggression advice......

Hi Guys, I've got 2 drakes (they were given to me as a male and female pair at a young age but turned out to be 2 males) and now Spring is here, so is their ego and hormones. True to drake style they are chasing and annoying everything in sight. My poor dogs can even no longer roam the the...

Exercise Requirements for 2 Buff Orpingtons?

Thanks DuckyFromOz. Yes, we are lucky to have things different here I did mean metres. I think I'm going to be doing a lot of evening torch light strolls around the backyard to give them the exercise they need. I unfortunately don't work so close to home. Thanks for your post. And happy...

Exercise Requirements for 2 Buff Orpingtons?

Hi there, Can anyone give me advice on what is the exercise requirement for my Buff Orpingtons? I'm worried, with current work commitments, that they might not be getting what they need - but what they need I'm not entirely sure. They are in their run (approx 2 x 8) through the day and then...

Will I need to clip my Buff Orpington ducklings' wings when fledged?

Thanks very much guys for getting back to me. Common sense should have prevailed really when I read your answers but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Very grateful for your replies. Cheers.

Will I need to clip my Buff Orpington ducklings' wings when fledged?

Hi - I'm new to the domestic duck world and have inherited 2 x Buff Orpington ducklings. We plan on letting them down on the dam through the day and penning them of a night but I want to know whether we'll need to clip their wings once fledged to keep them from flying off? Or will they know...

Raising 3 day old ducklings without a mother

Hi Pheobe, I'm with Wildcare here in NSW, Australia and have cared for orphaned wood and black ducks now for a while. Welcome to their world. You'll be captivated I'm sure. Everyone has made great suggestions. Hoping some of mine might also help. - I usually will place a feather duster in...
