Hello everyone! My name is Nick and i have been raising chickens since about 2005. I have not really ventured into the real colorful or oriental chickens but would like to attain a Silkie or two in the future. As of now I raise strictly White Leghorns with a few Buff Orpington hens, and i...
first i would probably move them out of there if you had that many die...and you had 84 chickens in there? doesnt seem like much room...i would move them outta there in case there were a virus or something around, and how do you get a heat lamp high enough from there with a 3 1/2 ft ceiling?
I know my chicken facts, and i can hatch eggs like a madman, but the incubator itself i am still learning. My incubator is going downhill, the fan doesnt work anymore and the temp is not a constant one, and my turner is shot...My question is how important is the fan? If i buy a new still air...
yea i think they enjoy it....i have lime in my covered coop so my chickens are pretty limited and then i tried that putting grass clippings in it, and i put in piles.....they ate some, they rumaged through it for bugs and once it was old it had collected many chicken droppings so i scooped it...
yea...i believe that unless they are ornamental chickens....they will lay as long as they live.....that may be exagerated, cuz they DO run out of eggs at some point in their lives but at 10 years they could still lay 1 a month or something and they are still technically laying
Girtrud, the girls of my family gave her that name, is about 2 years old and has never been broody, let alone any of my other girls. That is what makes this experience very cool. She hatched 4 out of 5 eggs and was very loyal to the nest. She hatched them out yesterday.
thank you very much....if anyone is interested in this rooster by any chance.....first come first serve......just putting it out there...not goin to makea big deal out of it....but if no one wants him by this weekend i am making chicken and dumplings
