    Bump on tail...why?

So, the other day, Kitty, one of my PWR was preening her tail, and I happened to look over. She had a small bump that she was cleaning near. I picked her up and checked on it...it isn't very large, maybe 1/4-1/3 inch tall and an 1/8 of an inch wide. It wasn't inflamed. It is near the end of...

    Montana

We got over a foot. In fact, we have had off and on snow all day. My husband has been taking the front wheel drive car, so I have been staying home, cozied up to the fire! The roads are not plowed out here, and it usually takes a couple days, but we seem to manage as long as we get a good...

    Plymouth Rock thread!

Hi all! I recently got a few baby chicks. The guy who had them was only able to keep 4, but had to order more so they would ship. I ended up with 6 of the babies. One ended up passing away. (Which my oldest son promptly turned the death into a math lesson for his little brother. (Six minus...

I am as prepared as I can be. I will need to get a couple things from the grocery store tomorrow, but I got the girls' feed in the cubby above their nesting boxes so I don't have to go digging in the tool box for a couple days (I use an old truck bed tool box to keep their bags of feed in. I...

    Jumping Chicken!

Our oldest son has trained "Boogs" (short for Booger) to jump for treats. She is clipped on her right wing, too.

The weirdest thing(s) that you have ever done with/for your chickens..

I am totally going to make my ladies some bonnets and costumes. That is Hilarious! The craziest thing I do at the moment, is sing (and maybe dance, but you'll never catch me) to them. Usually, its "All the Single Ladies" part from Beyonce's song. They have no rooster at the moment.

To Cull or Not to Cull? -Runny Nose, Occasional Sneezing

Hi all! I see that one of my ladies-I call her Booger-has had a runny nose, and has been sneezing occasionally. I thought it may have been from the dust of the straw or something, but it has been a few days, and I want to be pro-active. (I got the following from the stickied thread in this...

    Marking/Identifing Chickens That Look Alike

Wow, you guys rock! Thanks for the ideas! I think the most cost efficient way for me to do this would be the zip tie them. I will head to the Dollar store tomorrow. My ladies are 6 months old, and they are pretty big! How much bigger are they going to get? Here are my boys with two of them...

    Marking/Identifing Chickens That Look Alike

I went to my local fleet supply dealers and they had no leg bands. I have 7 Plymouth White Rock Pullets, and they all look the same! My boys are excited to name "theirs", but I want us to be able to identify them individually. Could I use elastic ribbon or something? (How would I put that on...

Picking out Pullets~Sunday Oct. 24th~What should I look for?

I will be getting 6 pullets tomorrow morning, and I was wondering what I should look for. I am lucky enough to be able to go to her property and pick them out! Some may be in the process of molting, however, the owner says that she is getting eggs from some of them. Is there anything I...

I thought you all would get a kick out of that! These two Toms...well, they gobble---a lot! I actually put the perch at that height so I could pet my hens if they were hanging out up there and I was in the coop!! I get to pick them up on Sunday!

Apple Cider Vinegar / organic treatments

From what I gather re: white vinegar/store vinegar/distilled is that, although it is great for cleaning, when it becomes filtered/distilled, almost all of the "good" properties are taken out. If you look at a bottle of Raw Apple Cider Vinegar vs. BrandX vinegar, the Raw vinegar is cloudy, which...

I have yet to get my chickens, but soon...so soon! (I am going to burst when I go get them...) I am glad this thread is here, because I am getting great ideas. So far my favorite group is flowers and bugs(I haven't yet read all the pages though!)...but I was wondering if anyone has named them...
