Hi everyone, just seeing the replies. Luckily my little Reptar is doing wonderfully. Eating like a champ now, and growing FAST. Already probably doubled in size since hatch! Guess he/she just needed a little time!
Good afternoon everyone! I'm a newbie to the emu world. I've raised chickens for years, but this is my first Emu. I ordered 2 eggs, and one hatched and I now have a bouncing baby emu, Reptar :) She hatched Wednesday of last week. I width-held food for 48hrs and water for 24 hours. She still...
Update: I figured out what went wrong, and I feel like CRAP. My brooder thermometer malfunctioned, and basically my chickens baked :(
On a brighter note, I recently hatched 10 silkies and 5 bantam cochins, and they ALL did wonderful :) have 13 silkies due to hatch this weekend!
ChickenPox: Don't take this the wrong way, I don't wish ANYONE bad luck, but I AM glad I'm not the only one. Sorry about your bad luck, too. I'm located in deep South Louisiana.
Thanks for the pictures. I'm looking for a hatcher-a separate container that I can move them to when they begin lockdown, so I can have an incubator with low humidity, and hatcher with high humidity.
I'm incubating with a hovabator genesis, but need to construct a hatcher, as I often have multiple hatch dates. I'm having trouble finding good photos/instructions from people who have successfully made hatchers.
Anyone?
Hey everyone! I decided to make my 1st hatch-a-long. I primarily raise silkies, but I have a few other eggs in my incubator. I currently have:
14 Silkies and 1 barnyard mix due TOMORROW from eggs from a local breeder (Monday, July 14, 2014)
5 Silkies from my flock due July 29, 2014
15 Frizzle...
Thank you for the replies! I've been hearing from a lot of others that have gotten 100% hatch rates in the past that have been having bad luck, too, recently. Maybe it's just the barometric pressure or something. Idk. I really appreciate the advice and will keep everyone posted on the progress...
I'll know by Monday one way or the other what's going on. I'm doing a lot of reading, & will help however I can with them hatching if needed! I'll keep everyone here posted.
They've been in the automatic turner since day 1. I would say stuck, too, but that wouldn't explain the fact that it looked so full already from day 7, compared to the others who were just spider veins. I wish I'd taken a photo, but I didn't think about it at the time.
Good morning!
I got some eggs from a local breeder that are now on day 18. One egg has been strange since the beginning. I candled them all at day 7, and they all looked normal except for this one. It was alive and there were obvious veins, but it looked a lot further along, I'd origially...
Good morning everyone!
I raise silkies. With my last hatch, I had 13 eggs that successfully made it to lockdown (candled at 18 days to confirm they were alive and well). Then, on hatch day, only 6 pipped, and only 4 hatched on their own. One died before hatching, and I helped one hatch because...
