    Broody chick?

I'll definitely keep an eye out but I watch them upwards of 12 hours a day currently and I've never seen them bully or be mean to the younger chicks. The other 4 just ignore them and these 2 did as well up until recently, plus it's not the younger chicks choosing to burrow its the older ones...

    Broody chick?

Hi all, so my as the title implies, a couple of my chicks seem to have gone broody. For context: I have 6 Buff Orpington chicks (all female) that will turn 6 weeks old on Wednesday, they are absolutely lovely and demanding cuddles which I am very much not opposed to. However, about a week ago I...

I think Vera would be an adorable name for a chicken and it relates nicely to the succulent Aloe Vera

What to do if chicks/ducklings have been fed veggies for several weeks without access to grit?

I've tried telling them nicely, I've tried yelling, even messages. Nothing seems to get through to them

    Hen passing on, need help

Update to this thread, Rooster was cooked, was an interesting experience for sure. I have 0 assistance despite numerous attempts to ask for it so I've not yet been able to file the one roosters spurs and another hen passed this morning. Fil still refuses to lose any more roosters and...

What to do if chicks/ducklings have been fed veggies for several weeks without access to grit?

Yeah but even with my chicks they simply do not care for boundaries, its really tough. I had mil burst into my room at 2 in the morning recently then just stare at me for a while before demanding to see their birds so even common sense boundaries don't work in this situation

What to do if chicks/ducklings have been fed veggies for several weeks without access to grit?

I own 6 of the chicks (the original 6) the rest are their birds that I was told to care for since I'm already caring for these. I hope that clears it up, sorry about any confusion

What to do if chicks/ducklings have been fed veggies for several weeks without access to grit?

I completely agree though I hate to say it. I don't think I'd ever be able to relax knowing they have unrestricted access to children... Their 1st batch of ducks from last year were left in awful conditions and handled so recklessly that almost all were eaten by one of their dogs. On top of...

What to do if chicks/ducklings have been fed veggies for several weeks without access to grit?

Thank you so much for your comment, I'm sorry for your loss but incredibly grateful to you for sharing your experience. I'm hoping to move out within the next few months because it breaks my heart watching these babies struggle. The 8 ducks, 1 group of 2 week olds and one group that I don't...

What to do if chicks/ducklings have been fed veggies for several weeks without access to grit?

So there's an update and it's a big one. Since the incident we managed to obtain a small amount of chick grit to deal with that issue (there's also a full bag coming on friday). However, inlaws are now complaining that I'm in the wrong and overexagerrating because their chick crumbles and...

What to do if chicks/ducklings have been fed veggies for several weeks without access to grit?

I've done that but the ground here isn't great, it's all sludgey since it rained today and we can't dig too far down because otherwise the ground is clay

Unfortunately my inlaws do know that they need grit, they've simply decided they don't care because I deal with the birds anyway
