BSF 100% do consume materials. I have a bin and threw in a dead fat ten week old Cornish Cross who we found an abscess on so did not eat. Everything except the feet, part of the head, and maybe a jawbreaker sized hunk of meat was gone in less than 48 hours.
They're amazing at breaking down...
I just chopped up a couple cloves. Maybe 2-3 cloves per gallon? I left the chunks floating in it and then would toss it after about twelve hours and redo.
I had two that were striking as chicks, where their father was a blue-laced red Wyandotte. Their mother might have been a BCM or something else.
because I only had two gray chipmunks out of....maybe fifteen to eighteen chicks, I kept a closer watch on them because of how pretty I thought they...
Just hatched the (final) eggs of the summer season 4 days ago: Pekin ducks. It's a relief to be done and see a light at the end of the managing poultry babies tunnel as well.
^ not who you were asking but we eventually treated our flock with antibiotics but initially used garlic in the water and that seemed to help them not feel as badly for a few days until we could get antibiotics.
Thanks! That's handy to know. The blue and barring on the rest of the body is so hazy to me. I'm not sure I would ever pick that up but I can see how you can look for it knowing there *is* barring because of the neck and the tail.
Cool though.
I have a really hard time seeing blue versus black (say, splash or barring.) I can see the chest is blue, so is that why the barring is blue?
Can barring genes follow Columbian placement on the body? Or with BYM it's just luck of the draw where some patterns pop out on the body?
Considering how tight the barring is, I am guessing either he was crossed with Dominique, or one of his grandparents had barring, like a barred rock or barred Holland. Barring can hide depending on which parent gives the barring gene. So the parent could have been a carrier.
But, as I...
^ that person you're asking hasn't posted for four years. But to answer your question, these factors may help:
1. I've read of eggs being interrupted during incubation for 18 hours and having a normal hatch rate still.
2. Your incubator (and the room around it) should keep the eggs warm for a...
I've seen hoop coops that used the cut rubber siding of above ground pools for roofs. Since it sounds like the posts for the whole run are set deep, wind tearing off the roof probably isn't that big of a threat. If you do decide to put both metal pieces on the roof, I would put a short space...
If you know someone with a mobile sandblaster (too expensive to pay for) you could sandblast that rust. Otherwise there or rust converters and then paint or you can grab some Rust-Oleum (not as good as a converter and then paint, but doesn't have to be perfect.)
I would dismantle the A-frame...
On craigslist, I've seen drakes for between $5-30, and laying ducks $20-35. I've seen drake/hen pairs listed for $30-40.
These are only listings rather than what they sold for.
It also depends on pure breeds versus backyard mix, location, age, etc.
You're going into fall so prices will...
I don't know if peacocks are like chickens or ducks, but I know chicks and ducklings can have a hard time if their bedding/brooder ground is only wood shavings. As they learn their environment, and put everything in their mouth, impacted crops can be more of an issue because they are young and...
If you're worried, you can loosely burrito them in a towel, lightly cover their face, and uncover one wing. And nothing says you have to do it all at once. You can do one wing and get around to the other wing later.
Also you can try waiting for them to fall asleep, using a red light, and...
Once they start flying over whatever boundary you have set, then it's time to clip. I think we had to start clipping some around 2.5-3 months. We recently had to recut some of them (only the ones hopping over again.)
It's up to you if you want to clip everyone at once, if they free range and...
Depends. It can be easier but it's not hard to do by myself. I either have the chicken facing out towards my side, almost facing behind me under my arm, and have their left arm pinned against my torso, while my left arm is under their right wing. I can support their body and hold the wing out to...
