Thanks a ton for all the info. The spray definitely sounds easy - sounds like I wouldn't need to do it one bird at a time... I'm not entirely sure wha I could get here, but I'll check out our local feed store and see what they offer.. can I get the Permethrin spray at a feed store or is it...

What a great idea chicksntexas! We ordered 2 batches of meat chickens for this year... when our first batch was 4 weeks old we got our second batch. We put them in the same pen as the older meat chickens, and I was afraid the older ones would pick on the babies. I went out to check...

LOL! You have no idea how I'm giggling! You are sounding more and more like my husband. Nope, raising chickens isn't enough... he wants to move on to bigger and better things, like pigs and cows, and I'm the wife who doesn't want a "six foot tall 80+ pound anything" around here...

I hear ya on the conflicting information... good luck with it - that doesn't sound like a bad temp to me anyway... I'm sure they'll be fine. How far along in the hatch are you? Have you candled any of them yet?

Are you serious?! I've got mine running as close to 37.5 as possible! You've got me panicking now!
We googled it when we tried our first hatch and it said the perfect hatch temp was 38.6.

I'm so sorry to hear that! What a disappointment. I'd be asking for my money back... Good luck with the one who seems to be developing! I love Cochin chickens... they're so pretty! We had 2, a beautiful black one, and an absolutely gorgeous white one. Sadly a racoon took the...

Um, I didn't know they needed to be small end down either... so the next time I try this should I maybe set them in an egg carton in my incubator?
I've finally had a chance to check in with you guys after being down with the flu for a week...
So excited to hear some of you are getting fuzzy butts! Love the pictures of the "feathered incubators". LOL! Hilarious that the little one keeps stealing the eggs!
We had an experienced friend...
We broke open the eggs yesterday and it looks like the chicks didn't develop much past day 10 or 12... no idea what happened, but we'll definitely be trying again. I'm disappointed, but will chalk it up to a learning experience and try it again. Meanwhile I'm looking forward to following you guys!
matlock585 - yay! air pockets are good! LOL!
I'm in day 23 and still no action. I'm pretty sure they've all died, but I don't want to take the steps I need to to confirm it.. I think it was either the temps that did it (had a hard time keeping the temp at a somewhat consstent level)...
