Six week old goose just started limping last night (not sure what's wrong?)

Hey katie55! Hang in there. I followed the suggestions of the other kind people here, used the "treats" (lettuce, etc.) and the vitamins and electrolytes, and the daily warm baths. My goose is now walking with a limp but is EXTREMELY mobile, she is able to run around outside with the other...

Six week old goose just started limping last night (not sure what's wrong?)

Thanks again! I do have some pears, think I'm out of peas but will get some more tomorrow. Any suggestion on how to feed those to her? I feel really really stupid too. Went to the Tractor Supply today & was able to find the Nolvasan, electrolytes, probiotics, and a heap of vitamins to add...

Six week old goose just started limping last night (not sure what's wrong?)

Okay really starting to think this is nutritional. Goose is worse today, won't stand at all. If we hold her up as soon as we let go she goes back into a resting position (fully laying on the ground). Good news is she is grooming & I saw her eat this AM. Been doing the warm water soaks in our...

Six week old goose just started limping last night (not sure what's wrong?)

We started off feeding them Manna Pro Gamebird/Showbird Feed for the first three weeks and then went to DuMOR Chick Starter/Grower 20% Feed with supplemented greens from our garden, and this week we started letting them free range some. We'll get started on the warm water soaks & I'll check...

Six week old goose just started limping last night (not sure what's wrong?)

Putting this in the goose forum (please move to emergency section if more appropriate there, but didn't know if it might be better to put in goose specific forum) Give us the following information. The more you tell us, the better we will be able to help you. 1) What type of bird , age and...

    No Hen Pen

We had an unexpected number of roos in our last order (we had ordered 8 sexed chickens (all female) of varying breeds)... we ended up with six pullets and two cockerels in addition to the five hens and one roo we already had. We also fell in love with our new boys and decided to keep them...

    Remaining Ducks are Depressed

We feel for you, we've lost five ducks in three days, with four of them going missing today in the middle of the day. It's really heart breaking for us, but the three remaining ducks just sat at the side of the house all afternoon and we had to herd them into the coop tonight. Hope your...

    Duck nesting boxes.

We had a duck that used to like to walk the row of nest boxes and stare at the chickens laying in them. They also slept in the bottom row of nest boxes, however, almost all eggs are laid wherever they are standing and then rolled together and buried. Our ducks REALLY love to bury the eggs.

What duck? (Does anyone know what breed I have?)

Look like my Campbells when they were that age, the drakes feet and coloring start changing at around 6-8 weeks. I don't know about the yellow tipped wings though.

Ok can this really be happening??

Yes it's entirely possible. I've got 6 broody hens right now and they do steal eggs. Best to mark the eggs with an "x" or something so you know if any go missing or get added to. As a side note, this is how we figured out we had a hen eating eggs as well.

What type of incubator have you had success with (for ducks)

Not sure if the incubators are any different as far as success for ducks than chickens. We know they do require more time than chicks. We've lost 5 of our 8 ducks this week, including our only drake. We've only managed to find one so far (dead) and really want to incubate their eggs to...

What the heck is going on - 2 more issues with my ducks?

Just got off the phone with the vet. They want us to start her on an antibiotic pronto and watch the other ducks for signs of illness. At this point they don't want to medicate the whole flock, just the one who is showing symptoms. It may just be coincidence or its possible she was taken by a...

    breeds that wont fly away?

Khaki Campbells will fly, just not very far. Our drake once swooped in front of a red-tail hawk. I'm not sure who was more shocked us or the hawk, needless to say the hawk didn't get any of our birds that day. Overall I've seen them go about 20 feet for distance and as high as five. They...

What the heck is going on - 2 more issues with my ducks?

Thanks! She will get up and walk around for about 2-5 minutes and then collapse again and stay paralyzed. We called our vet, but they are on another call right now and want to consult their info back at the office and see what the best course would be. We brought her in the house, put a lamp...

What the heck is going on - 2 more issues with my ducks?

We're experiencing something very similar. We have 8 khaki campbells housed along with our 23 chickens. One of the ducks is missing, while we're feeding/watering tonight before we go to look again one of the ducks has what looks like a seisure, stretches out and then her neck goes limp/falls...

Free - 2 year old Roosters Easter Egger & White Leghorn - NE GA

I have two 2 year old roosters I need to find new homes for one is a GORGEOUS Easter Egger (*note his toes are crooked, but otherwise he's gorgeous) and a very pretty White Leghorn. They're good birds, and great with the girls - I just don't have enough hens for the girls not to be stressed...

26 Hens given new lease on life

Here in the GA mountains my non-production birds just began laying again 2 weeks ago so I wouldn't worry too much. If you got them last May they wouldn't have really started laying anyway til October, and perhaps it was just too cold and too little light. Also you might be surprised where they...

The USDA has announced that it is dropping NAIS!

According to the FTCLDF (Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund) alert I received today the USDA is dropping plans for NAIS. The new (USDA) program will focus on interstate commerce and only traceback to the state of origin (which if you care that much - buy local and know your farmer I say) -...

feather picking problem need more suggestions

Can you give us some more details as to their living arrangements, nutrition, etc? On occasion one or the other may see something around the other's face and pick at that. Barring that there may be an environmental (boredom, not enough space) or nutritional issue. You can make the feather...

I made a decision!!! (About going outside)

Sounds like you've thought everything through and have been working on acclimating them to the cold. One thing you may want to rethink though is the artificial heat. If the birdies are fully feathered out they shouldn't need it and it may cause more problems than solutions. 1) If the power...
