Okay, I am hoping somebody can help me out. In May of this year of ordered 9 goslings from Metzer Farms to be delivered in June. I hand raised them so that they would be very comfortable around people and to make them pet temperment. Unfortunately tonight I returned home to find all 8 remaining...
The best advice on raising chickens that I have is too insure your coop is predator proof. That means do whatever you deem necessary in your area. You got raccoons, foxes, bobcats, bears, or even cougars, there is always a way to protect your birds. Do your research, find out whats legally...
I don't know much about Cocker Spaniels being used as LGD's but I would think that you'd be better off getting a larger breed with a history that is bred for guarding or herding livestock. Just my opinion though, I am no expert on the matter for sure. I was thinking of adding a Rottweiler to my...
Hey everybody, I was looking into getting some Ancona ducks and I heard that Holderreads sold his stock to them. I have been searching for them on google but can't find any contact information or a website. Anybody know how to get a hold of them? I'd really like to invest in some day olds this...
My babies stopped in August and haven't picked up since. I had tons this summer that my broodys attempted to hatch (but all miserably failed). At about a year and a half old in March hopefully the ladies will pick up again.
Dogs, dogs, dogs, and more dogs. Where I live I have found that the only real deterrent is having my 3 great Pyrenees patrol my property. They tend to keep all the big and small stuff away. and if somethings to big to handle I hear the barking and ill be out there with a loaded gun within a...
I would assume that a frozen egg is still an egg and that is should still be edible. I'd just thaw it out first before attempting to cook them up real good. I don't think nest boxes will make much of a difference. If your trying to incubate them to produce ducklings, a cracked egg will likely...
Yes sir, in Redding PA it is legal! I used to have relatives who lived there until they relocated to Wyomissing. Welcome to the chicken world I think the limit was 5 chickens per half acre which really isn't to bad.

I am from about 10 miles east of the cougar accident. Folks have been losing horses to what the state says is coyotes. I'm pretty darn sure a coyote can't take down several horses per month. I think we got a population of cougars here.
I am so sorry to hear about this tragedy. Thank the lord that you, your family, and the majority of your chickens are okay. If there is anything that we in the BYC community can do for you and your family, please let us know. Praying for you.
Howdy everybody,
Well my worst nightmare happened last night, when i went outside to put my flock of 9 adult ducks to bed they were nowhere to be found. I live in a rural version of suburbia, properties are generally 1.5 acres and very little traffic. I allowed my flock to free ranger which they...
I'm very caught up with the CMA awards right now so I will make this quick!!
I wouldn't be worried, likely just gonna be your little chick who is on top of the pecking order. Maybe as nature may have it, he will grow faster than the other but not end up as large, then will be on the bottom of...
I believe the mothers stop laying eggs until the chicks are fully mature. I would not separate the chicks from the mama though, simply because it saves you a lot of work and even if you separated them the mama would likely still not be laying.
