Hello
I appreciate all your inputs! I will definitely check into 4H or other permaculture websites. I may have a friend who I will ask to baby sit. I'll post something when I find a solution I just know I can't give up my chickens, they mean so much to me!!!
Hello all wonderful BYC members!
I am moving from a little town in Northern New Mexico to Southern California. I have 8 birds, one is laying and the rest are about 3 months old.
During the move, I might have to live in an apartment for a few months while I get a place with a yard. So in the...
Hello
I have a PP rooster. I live in NM and if I can find a good home for him I am willing to sell him. I consider him a specialty breed, and considering the fact that the breed was near extinct a few years ago I hope that I can place him in a home where he will be useful! He is quite skittish...
Thank you all for your responses. I think I they will be fine from now on.. They are fully feathered and it seems like temperatures will not drop below 32 from now on.. hopefully! Ready to get them out of the house permanently! It's amazing how much two birds can poop and poop...
I have two chicks.. they are 2 months and 3 weeks... A BO pullet, and a Partridge Penedesenca cockerel. I live in NM and it gets around 32-36 at night. Is this too cold for the chicks? How cold can it be and how old do they have to be before I can leave them outside in their coop?
Hoping for...
Thank you! Yea, it seems like I just got it confirmed from someone else who's PP looked just like mine, and yes, it turned out to be a roo. Oh well! Guess having a roo can be fun too!
Hi everybody
I have a two month old partridge penedesenca and I just can't find out if it's a boy or a girl. There are a few pictures online of the pp breed, but none of the ones I've seen look like my bird. Fluffy is extremely skittish and runs extremely fast. It's a "fun" bird to look at.

I can't figure out if it's a hen... S(he) popped out of the egg within 25 minutes after the first pip. The partridge is more skittish than the buff.
I'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks for the info. Reason I switched to this repti type bulb one is because I couldn't find any Wattage lower than 250W on the more sturdy ones. anyone know if they exist in lower wattage?
I recently changed my infrared lightbulb from a 250W to a 100W repti bulb last week. And just now, it exploded!!! My two chickies were fine, but left them quite startled. It was loud and smoke came from the bulb. I have a typical brooder clamp lamp, with ceramic top..
Anyone any idea what made...

Thank you! If my story can inspire and help you get more interested I feel very proud! I had never dealt with chickens before, but reading and educating myself has really helped making me confident that I can do this! Information is everything!
(I added a few more pictures. They are now month and a half)
Thought I would post a few pics of my two little chicks as a little thank you. After all, I owe a lot of my hatching success to this forum with all the available information and the amazing users in here! I had originally more than 25...
