I have a hen that is keeping her tail down. She has a hard mass that feels like an egg in her abdomen, but when I check her vent I am not able to access the "egg" itself. . . it feels like it's surround by mucous membrane on all sides. She is walking (waddling) with her tail down. She was a...
One of my birds, Soda, turned out to be a rooster. He is a very sweet, hand-tame boy with what I think is a beautiful crest. He's a little guy, and very quiet. He mounts our girls, but seems like a gentle lover. We just can't abide humping, of any kind, in our chicken yard :(. I'd like to find a...
Thanks.
Is there some way of knowing if it is cocci, by particular signs of improvement? And how quickly should it be apparent that the treatment is working, if you know? Sorry for all of the questions---I love my girls and I just want to stay ahead of it and do right by them. She is eating...
Thank you for your reply!
Her vent looks normal: correct color, no swelling. Her abdomen does not seem to be distended, or swollen, or overly hot. Her crop doesn't feel spongy or impacted: I can feel the individual seeds and grains, and no there's no squishiness. I'm not sure what else to...
Thank you for replying :)!
I have dealt with an egg-bound chicken in the past, but I have never known this chicken to have a laying problem, or problems of any kind. Also, I have checked and I can't find any masses or material of any kind inside her. She's a Sicilian Buttercup, so not really...
From what I know, this is "dry" fowl pox, and it will most-likely run its course. One of my hens had little spots like these and none of the others seemed to get it. They went away in time, and did not spread.
My BFF hen, Isa, has not been herself since yesterday. She was up at my door, setting on the stoop, first thing in the morning. We noticed her poo was runny, and green, and that there was some yolk residue around her vent. I've bathed her, and I did an internal inspection with some KY. Her...
Thanks, everyone . It's nice to have the reassurance. We never heat or light our coops, so I thought I'd check with the community. I'm sure the transition will go well--the grown-ups have been hanging out around the tractor (ever so casually getting aquainted ).
Hi .
I have two chicks (one is 8 weeks old, and the other is 9 weeks). They have been living in our bedroom inside a big galvanized Behlen County trough and, for the last week or so, I have been taking them outside to our tractor, during the day. I have been bringing them in at night. They seem...
I think 5 and 1 look like they may be pullets . Our LF blue had no waddles to speak of at 6 weeks, and her comb stayed light pink for a long time. Good luck!
We went to a poultry show yesterday and today we are introducing a red partridge bantam wyandotte and a black partridage silkie to our original flock of three very sweet birds. The new hens are 3 months old, and the wyandotte (Adele) is settling in surprisingly quickly. The silkie hen (Odette)...
