    Sore Bum

Update - been keeping her cleaned and using an ointment but she’s not gotten better. I’m going to soak her in warm water and epsom tonight. She seems to be having trouble keeping her balance. I’m concerned this is more than just a sore bottom. The Interwebs are dark and full of terrors. Could...

    Sore Bum

I just checked on her, several hours after cleaning her up and yuck... her bum is just leaking stuff... semi-clear liquid, looks like urea is in there etc. Could this be parasites?

    Sore Bum

That I don’t know. Perhaps but I don’t know for sure. She does groom herself a lot. Antibiotic ointment like a triple action type?

    Sore Bum

This is her cleaned but I noticed on the lower part that the tissue is swollen and irritated and possibly scabbed? When I was washing her I was trying to remove it to clean her thoroughly but feared I’d make the skin more irritated. I haven’t seen her lay an eggs for several days now, which I...

    Sore Bum

This is my silkie hen - and she’s got a sore bum. She flexes it often as if she’s trying to poop. She has been pooping but she also does this between poops. It looks like it’s sore from being wet and dirty all the time :(. I’ve attached a photo for your review and help. I’ve cleaned her up...

    Ruptured Crop - External Tear

I have an 8 week old silkie who had a swollen crop I discovered two days ago. I have been trying to help her clear things out but I could never get it complete empty and it felt like there were gas bubbles in her crop. I could get food and junk out (and it didn’t smell bad at all so I don’t...

My Flock got attacked last night

Thanks, Zoomie-- I will. This happens to hit during avery busy week for me, too, so I will need to sort something out until I can get to the weekend and begin my fortifications. I will put motion sensing lights around the coops, too, just to give me a warning that something might be amiss as...

My Flock got attacked last night

Well, I took to heart what you all said and I beefed up my defenses, essentially caging them in and yet somehow... it happened again. I even made sure the door closed at night but whatever it is that attacks my flock pried the door open. Of my 15 bird flock, 4 remain. I'm gutted. I will...

My Flock got attacked last night

She's been through this before... and she will be fine and I will definitely have her be a part of saying goodbye to them. Poor kid... she knows that the chicken's life can be brutal at times. Thankfully something like this has never happened. We most often have a loss now and then from hawks...

My Flock got attacked last night

I don't happen to have pics but I think I can clarify... the run is enclosed but open from above. The door IS automatic and uses a light sensor to open and close. The chickens were all inside the coop when I paid them a visit last evening but the door hadn't closed yet. Did the door...

My Flock got attacked last night

Thank you.... and of course I will be honest with her. Again she's been through deaths before but so many at once....well, that's a different story. My door closes automatically... I have never had it not close before but yes, I'll be checking nightly for a while. The hen that chased the...

My Flock got attacked last night

I'm not even sure why i writing this... maybe because I keep telling myself they're just birds... or that there was truly nothing I could have done... but my heart is so heavy just now. I woke up and got ready for work this morning and as usual I went out to the greenhouse/garden/coop complex...

Wow that's crazy-- i wonder why they're selling so late in the season. But I really think you should go back and get some. ;)

Honestly I'd go find a good hatchery online to find the birds you want because I have had zero luck finding anything out of the ordinary. You'd think Colorado being so country and ranch loving we'd have way more variety but I haven't found it. I also haven't found terribly great breeders here...

Thanks. Having read and read and read and even spoken to someone very knowledgeable about chickens it would seem my lavenders had Mareks but having had culled them and unknowing of the cause I destroyed the birds and never got a necropsy. So I guess I'll never know at this point. The rest of...

They'll be fine without heat. Let them acclimate to their new home without additional heat. If you want, have a space for them just in case the weather is too brutal for them and they need a day or twos worth of shelter to tied them over. I never heat my coop and they're just fine. You may...

    Colorado

I have never heated my coop and while my rooster did have some tip damage on his comb, no one was worse for wear. Keep them out of the wind (and this goes for all animals and plants and trees) here in Colorado and they'll be fine. That wind is brutal.

I can't sany for sure but it certainly seems that way. We had six lavender Orpingtons and five of the six all fell "ill" with the same issues. None of my other orps had this illness but the seller/breeder gave me useless advice and then just stopped calling me. Anyway, ar these birds the same...

Hi everyone...been trying to read up on what's been going on ... this thread is insanely long. Anyway, having a bad chicken day....after losing all but one of our lav Orpingtons, I get a text from the neighbor telling us a hawk got our remaining orp. She escaped the run...how I do not know...
