thank you! i'm pretty excited to have a tophat roo. I have an up-and-coming lavender orpington roo as well, I think I'll keep both. I just don't see the tophat getting as big as the orpington so they may not present a problem, having them both. I could be wrong?
We have a young flock of 4 months old. There was one speckled sussex roo that we got rid of. Now I'm hearing another chick try to crow but when I'm around them, they don't do it. The only ones that look slightly suspect are the tophats in these pics. Can anyone spot my roo?
I just ordered a lavender orpington cockerel. Very excited to have him. We have a dozen or so really cool breeds this go around and think he will be a neat addition. I'd like to hear from you if you have experience with a lav orp. They came highly recommended for roosters if you have kids, which...
I have 10 hens all hatched on the same day, Aug 3rd, so we are approaching 8 weeks. I want a rooster and none of the 16 chicks I have are showing signs of being roo-ish. The local NPIP hatchery has a 12 week old Welsummer rooster. I'm wondering how he would do being introduced to a coop full of...
I don't really know of a better way to put it. We bought 9 blue andalusian eggs online. 4 hatched. we gave one away so we have 3 7 week old chicks. Their "mama" is a blue laced red wyandotte. In addition to these we have 7 other layers of various breeds. One of the 7 week old blue andalusian...
We have a huge family vacation coming up in four weeks. Lots of big breakfast eaters. I'd like to provide all the eggs so no one has to buy eggs and its a cool thing I can contribute to the gang. If I start saving them now, they will be four weeks old when we begin the vacation. Do you/ would...
Well, some of you said to wait a certain amount of weeks and some of you said put her and the chicks in there with the flock right away. That was the easiest thing to do so we put them in there yesterday afternoon. The chicks were 4 and 6 days old. We were amazed at how wonderfully they...
Really? That would be the easiest thing for me. But how do you keep the chicks from eating the layer feed and the hens from eating the chick starter feed?
