Hi everyone,
Just wanted to update you all on what happened with Kelloogs. Sadly, he had to be sent to Rooster Heaven as it was the kindest thing for him.
In the end, it turned out he had avian tb. In case it helps anyone else, here's a rundown of his symptoms.
First, he started to sit down...
No white diarrhea that I know of, I'll have a look round the coop in the morning to see if I can spot any.
I think you are right with the needing a more powerful antibiotic, but I don't think I'm going to be able to get one.
**Edit** - white diarrhea has appeared, and he's getting worse. Can...
Hi everyone,
Can anyone please help with some problems I'm having?
I have a flock of five hens and one rooster. All are about 8 or 9 months old. We live in rural Borneo, so medication is quite hard to come by, and there isn't a vets that can deal with poultry.
Just recently, I noticed that...
Oh yay!!
I'm really glad it's nothing that shouldn't be there
I saw it and started to panic a bit.
Geebs: the lethargy, desperately working on it
Thanks everyone for the replies, and putting my mind at rest
Hi everyone,
Further to my earlier post of strange behaviour from my rooster, I've just discovered a strange lump on his back.
I saw it when he stretched and spread out his feathers, and being a newbie, I'm not sure if it should be there
For background info, lately he's been acting really...
Hi all
Checked in Kellogg's mouth, all looks pinkish and couldn't see anything that looked like it ought not to be there.
I've been corrected by my husband on the pale comb issue - it's just his face/cheeks that looks pale, not the comb. It'll fade to a light pink/yellowish colour, but when he...
Kelloggs is eating the porridge mix that I make him in the morning and evening, but for yesterday and so far this morning all he has done is sit down in the coop. I thought we were making progress but it seems like we are going backwards
I've checked the eye again after washing it a couple of...
Mama24, that's reassuring, yes he's about 8 months I think. It doesn't look like the feathers have dropped out for an obvious reason, and the skin isn't sore, so perhaps he'll fill out again soon!
Chicknmania, yes he walks fine, he can even run if the need arises (like me following him for an...
Hi everyone,
This morning we washed Kelloggs's eye with some saline, got some gunk out and cleaned it up.
Just in case of mites and lice, we gave him a rinse and quick wash with some lightly medicated lice/mite soap. He didn't seem to mind
While washing I did notice that in some places he...
Thank you so much everyone for the replies.
I've been out to see Kelloggs (the rooster!) just now, he was just sitting down in the coop again doing nothing. He has eaten breakfast today though, which is good.
Ok, an update: The "creaky door" noise - he wasn't doing it just now, and the only...
Thanks for the replies, I have re-posted in the "emergency" section (thanks for the tip - I didn't know that section was there).
Happy Chooks, we have had him for about two months now, he wasn't like this when we first got him.
Hopefully someone in the emergency section will be able to help
Hi everyone,
I relatively new to chicken-keeping, so please bear with me!
I have five hens and one rooster, and the hens are laying everyday. But my rooster is acting a bit strange.
For a while now, all he does for most of the day is sit down on the grass, asleep. He eats well, I see him eat...

Thanks Magicpigeon - I'll try the eggshells as I don't think we can get oyster out here.... do I grind them up into a powder? Or just break them up really small?
Haha yes we have two papaya trees - the chickens get the excess as I just can't eat it all myself!! We also have a banana tree, a...
Hi - thanks for the replies so far!
We are in Borneo, so its hot hot hot all year round!
The sunrise / sunset is also pretty constant throughout the year - it only ever varies by about 30 minutes at most all year. Sun up at 6am and sun down around 6.30pm.
I've fed them the same thing ever...
Hi everyone
I'm new to chicken-keeping so apologies if this is a silly question!
I have a flock of five hens and one rooster, all around six months old. They are free-range during the day but are locked up in their house overnight.
A week ago I was very excited to get my first egg!! I had...
