    Newbie feeding question

I was using a 50lb bag a month sometimes a little longer, but as someone else stated they are not only hard to manuver but to keep good in humid climates and also was constantly fighting bugs in my feed. There is a local feed store that sells the 50lb bag but divided into 2 25lb bags to make it...

    Black Patches Over Rooster's Eyes

I get the a poultry magazine and there was a whole artical about winterizing your chickens and about frostbite. All photos of the frostbitten chicken were of those w/ black spots/patches. not yellow. The spots might be something else but that is also what frostbite manifests as. I actually had a...

Patches of feathers missing on underside of bantams not sure why???

well the one hen definitely has been. I was getting an egg a day from all my hens and she kept laying on them and crying when I would take them. The other I never saw do it, but I saw her tonight picking at the spot that was bare. She has a couple thin spots by her head but that's from the roo...

    New chicken mama

Welcome! I've seen a lot of talk about using sand lately but we use pine shavings. It's cheaper and doesn't mold like hay can in the humid climate. Make sure it's pine though. Cedar bothers their respiratory!

Patches of feathers missing on underside of bantams not sure why???

I just went out to check on them one more time for the night. They are all roosting peacefully. Their feet look better already and it's only been half a day. They all cooed at me and didn't look too mad! lol! The weather has been much nicer the last few days and I've been letting them free range...

has it been cold there? It could be frostbite damage. We had that happen to one and that's what it looked like. Was told just to coat these area's of the face, comb, etc... w/ petroleum jelly to protect them.

We have a big feeder that is out 24/7 also. We top it off every day but it never is empty unless we had terrible weather and couldn't get out til the second day. (our roo will never let his ladies go without food. if it gets low he hollars until you fill it!) We do take treats out to them at...

I have a small flock of 6 bantams. 5 ladies and 1 roo. They are our babies and we love them to death but our first flock and don't know a whole lot. Scaly Leg Mites - Need Best / Easiest / Quickest Solution - Scaley

well I was told anything strong like wd40 and such can cause resperatory problems and is not good for them. I was told by the local farm store to use petroleum jelly, veg. oil or something like that. My babies have got it bad. a couple so bad they can hardly walk. I didn't know what it was but...
