    I would make the neighbor aware of the hen and chicks. I don't think I would leave them be, because with the chicks, momma will be more vulnerable now. The chicks and momma will need to get easy access to food too.

    Please consider checking for any birds at shelters. There are so many birds waiting for families, you may find the right one for you. I have a scarlet macaw that I found through pet finder and she was at an animal shelter about 50 miles away.

    Perhaps someone else can answer better, but I've always been under the impression that hay should not be used. Mine have gotten into hay before and ended up with an impacted crop. I'm not sure what sudan grass/hay is though. Does her crop feel full?

    Let momma hen take care of them. Just keep them seperated for a while. That's usually worked the best for me.

    I will usually seperate the hen with the chick(s) for a week or two. Mom can take care of them and it gives them a chance to get a little bigger and stronger.

    I don't know of any emus that free range. I would be afraid they could be injured or injure someone. I think they would do well with a horse but I'm not sure if a traditional barbed wire fence would be enough to keep them in.
