White patch on the side of her head?

My buff seems to be doing okay. It's funny it seems to kinda come and go. Sometimes it will be really white, and other times, you can't hardly see it! Anyway, other than not laying eggs, she's fine!

Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Thanks, I just wanted to be sure. Not that we wouldn't love her if she wasn't a JG, but we named her Jersey, so just wanted to make sure that her name made sense. Thanks for answering my question! We're really excited to see how big she gets!

Mine didn't really care. She was pretty please with her place in our little flock, doesn't mean another bird won't want to be top hen!

Review by '' on item 'Wyandotte'

I had a Splash Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and she was fantastic. She took longer than the other girls to get to her POL. I got her when she was three months old on April 1st, 2012 from a private breeder here in Tucson and she didn't lay her first egg until September. But we loved her and she was a...

Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Quick question. I just got a JG from the feed store, but she has a white spot under her chin. Is this normal for them?

    Ancona Chicken Thread

My roommate and I just went to the feed store and they had Anconas so we got one along with a Jersey Giant and an Amerucana. Our Ancona- Sophie- seems to be pretty nervous. Any suggestions on taming her a bit? My new babies! SO excited!

    Eggless for a month

Thanks, a friend recommended that we go back to straight pellet for a couple of weeks. Apparently, we take too good of care of our chickens, between the food, the scratch, and the sprouts we grow for our girls (not a lot of green stuff in our Tucson backyard!) Thanks for the link though!

    Eggless for a month

Hi I have a question. I have three hens and they have been all eggless for about a month now. They are about a year and a half now, and we haven't had problems like this before. My Buff Orpington just got over a bout of EYP, and my Sex link just came out of a molt, but we have been eggless from...

    Bully Chicken

Okay, we'll see about that. Anyway to make that ourselves?

    Bully Chicken

So my hens are over a year old now, and settled into their pecking order, but my head hen, Hot Lips, keeps on picking on my youngest (and coincidentally my hen on the very bottom of the pecking order), BJ. HL will jump on BJ's back, and grab onto her feathers so hard that they pull out. Bj now...

White patch on the side of her head?

So I recently noticed that on the side of my Buff Oprpington's head is this weird white patch where it should be red (I assume) and I've also noticed that compared to my other three chickens, her feathers are a little ragged and transparent almost. She's still running around and eating, so she...

    No eggs in a week

When you say weird eggs, does this include shell-less, and yolk-less eggs every now and again?

    No eggs in a week

So I've only had these hens since April 1st and I got three of them as about 3 1/2 month old pullets and the other one was about 2 1/2 months old when I got her. At the beginning of this month my Barred Rock started laying about one egg a day for about two weeks and my Buff Orpington has only...

    Apple Cider Vinegar-Why?

Thank you! This is a really good article!

    Apple Cider Vinegar-Why?

So why ACV in their water? What is the exact purpose of adding it to their water? What does it do? I know that I use it to clean the coop, but what is the point in putting it in their water? I'd like to read any articles that support this. Thank you.

    Fly Problem

Is there a safe, natural way to reduce the fly population around my coop? We've tried fly traps, but those stink so much, that it's hard to stay out there and hang with my hens. Someone said diatomaceous earth works. I also read somewhere that a gallon jug with water and vinegar works. Any...

Garlic?! Corn?! Good, Bad? Any opinions?

Maybe where you live you can feed corn year-round, but I live in Tucson, Arizona, where in the middle of summer, it's easily 110 degrees in the shade. I've also noticed that all of the people who responded to the corn question all live in green, rainy areas that might be a little cooler than...

    Wyandotte Maturity

Well, how long? Month wise? I have other birds but I'm just wondering how old she will be before she starts laying her eggs. I'm not in this for the eggs, I'm in this for the fun of having chickens, but it would be nice to know what age the Wyandotte starts laying her eggs. Thanks!

Thanks for this article. My roommate and I just got chickens and were planning on letting them out into the yard, and this article had many good tips. Thanks again!
