My chickens, 2 red sex-links and one white leghorn, seem to be eating the straw out of their nesting box! I put in new filler, and they either knock it to the floor, or it disappears. Then all we can hear are their claws scratching at the nesting box. Is there something else I should put in...
Is there a guideline for worming your chickens? I have 3 hens about 6 mos. old now. Or do you wait until you see a particular sign of need?
All three are laying nicely, and I'd like to keep them healthy!

I have run out of pine shavings for my 4 week old pullets and have shredded some newspaper instead. Is this ok? They've eaten a few pieces, but it's soy ink, so hopefully won't poison them. Everything else is going well, and this is my first time raising chicks, so I don't want to mess things...
