    Broody duck or incubator?

Hi all, after my last disastrous attempt at hatching eggs in my incubator I did decide to try again and I have 5 of my duck's eggs in the incubator, they are on day 8 and I've candled them all and they are all developing nicely. Here is my debate though, Maggie the mummy duck has gone broody and...

    Really really fed up :(

Sadly poor little mite has died, only in the last half an hour. her leg was still wonky and her eyes started to close, she was still a fighter though and I gave her water and electrolytes but she has gone to the great duckpond in the sky. Thanks so much for all your help. I was going to get rid...

I just hope that the pregnant foster dog I'm caring for at the moment does a better job at popping her puppies out when the time comes!!!!

    Really really fed up :(

Thankyou so much for all your help! Fingers crossed tomorrow will bring good news! I've taken out the dividers now and laid the flannel flat so she has more room to crawl around, hopefully to get that leg working too! I've turned the humidity down too now, thanks. She's had another drink and so...

So keep the humidity high too ? it's at 70% at the moment, I'll adjust the temp. No food then, nothing until she's walking?

    Really really fed up :(

I have also been giving it dips of water from a small cap, is this enough? I'm worried it's going to be thirsty. I have tied up the navel and bathed the end in that disinfectant, it's better than nothing I guess. Do I just leave the duckling in the incubator overnight now and hope that it's up...

    Really really fed up :(

There is no bleeding, the image is of the sack after it had torn but before I cut it off, I tied the floss then left it a bit before cutting just to make sure, anyway the chick is livelyish, on clean tissue and a flannel, one of it's legs seems to be really straight though, it was the one yolk...

Thanks for that, I just logged on here to say that I just checked on it and it had torn the sack and it was starting to empty out, I've tied the floss round tight near the chick, I guess I just leave it now?

    Really really fed up :(

Thanks for that, it does help, the last duckling that hatched had an unabsorbed yolk but during the course of 24 hrs is got absorbed. This one seems kinda angry red now and has white patches on it, similar to how a hard boiled egg looks. It doesn't seem to be getting smaller. It's wrapped up in...

It's looking bright and is busy chewing the flannel! But the yolk has some white on it and looks a bit dark in places

Right well the incubator has movable divides, so I've made the area smaller that it can get in, I don't have any paper towels so I've used a flannel instead, Made it moist as the yolk looks dry, it was easier to put a photo in, please don't yell if I've got it wrong :S

    Really really fed up :(

Hmmm it just kinda kicked it's way out! It's the only egg in the incubator so noone else to upset it or tread on it, it's still attached to the eggshell though. it's a largeish yolk (not sure how big they normally are) covered in blood vessels but with a bit of white stuff on it? The floor of...

    Really really fed up :(

Oh thanks for that, I feel a bit less stupid now then. It's pulled itself out of the shell pretty much now, just the yolk still attached, it's not walking round etc but looking bright and cheeping lots! Will let you know how it's going in a few hours, x

    Really really fed up :(

Hiya, well the ducks I have are mini silver appleyards and calls, so this duckling could be a mix. I made a larger hole and it was struggling but getting nowhere, so i figure that as it's been so long I'd open a bit more as it looked so tired (probably the wrong thing to do) no blood as i opened...

    Really really fed up :(

Hi, yes duck eggs, well one lonely duck egg now. The airsac was very small so I was advised to make a tiny safety airhole at the very top of the egg, after 18 hrs of internal pipping, which i've done, but no external pip, I've upped the humidity to 70% now. I only noticed the pipping at 10pm the...

Thanks adrian. It did internally pip nearly 36 hrs ago, as I could hear it! Or can you hear it before it pips internally? The egg has Ellie written in pencil on one side (my daughters friend popped them in) and that has stayed Ellie side up since the pipping began. I will just leave it be...
