    Hen Scratching Out Others Feathers???

Two out of three of our laying hens have been having some issues for the last 6 months, at least. They're missing the feathers on their backs! We couldn't figure it out, and since we didn't have a rooster, we just assumed that the hen NOT missing feathers was being a bit sassy and asserting her...

    Tomato Gardeners...HELP!

A couple of the leaves, especially toward the bottom, are turning yellow with brown dots. There aren't any concentric rings in the dots that I notice yet, they're still small but big enough I guess to say no, no concentric rings.

    Tomato Gardeners...HELP!

So, I received some totem hybrid tomato plants for Mother's Day. The lady at the nursery I visited afterwards told me not to plant them until after next week (that's supposedly when frost is no longer a danger). When I received this plant it was already pretty well established, with many green...

    I've Learned a New Trick! :D

My chooks have a run under their coop that is about 4x4 ft (they're 8 wks old, and it's temporary until we move and build a bigger one) so I often take them out of their coop for about an hour a day while I watch their hysterical behavior. Some of their behavior is NOT so hysterical, like making...

    TSC? Handcuffs? Wow.

I hate our local TSC...we were there last weekend, just browsing the chicks. We noticed that they had Cornish x chicks in a brooder, PACKED in there. There were 2 weekers with day olds, and the day olds were EATING the 2 weekers!!! When I alerted an employe, she literally ROLLED HER EYES AT ME...

Thank you! I am so excited, my husband is a little shocked...see, our compromise was that I could get the chickens instead of having another baby. Now it seems I just got my way all around We weren't attempting to get pregnant, just not NOT trying, so it's a surprise in a way. Just another...

    Starting to "Talk" :D

So my 7 week old gals are starting to "talk"...they are making noises that almost remind me of a turkey while they walk around and peck at the ground. Before I know it, they'll be clucking all the time. I can't believe how big they're getting

finally evicted out to the coop (pic)

I allowed my girls access to their run on the very first day, but their run is under the coop so it's protected. I don't have much experience, so maybe an expert will know better? And the two reddish-brown gals look like my Rhode Island Red girls, not sure about the two darker ones though!

1wk Old Meaties with 7wk Old RIRs?

So we got 2 Cornish x's (we think) last Sunday (Easter) and have been keeping them in the brooder that my four 7 week old RIRs moved out of. I know you're not supposed to do that without cleaning the brooder, but my flock is fed medicated feed and they are healthy, so I wasn't worried about the...

    Nervous Chicken Mama :/

Thanks for the replies! felidaet - tell this to my husband. We had already purchased chicken wire when I decided hardware cloth would be better. He's already done the window and the entire run with chicken wire, and attached it with STAPLES. He says I'm being paranoid, but I know better. I'm...

    Nervous Chicken Mama :/

So...we finished our coop to a level satisfactory for my babies to move in tonight. We had cut a hole out of the wall to put the external nest boxes, but since they are only 6 weeks old we didn't build the actual boxes yet so we simply covered the hole with chicken wire. I am worried that my...
