    Unabsorbed yolk sac

MissPrissy, thank you! Inside the shell was a wet gross blob, that I assumed was the yolk sac and the cord was wet and bleeding, but I stopped it quickly. I am so pleased with his progress and have hope now. Thanks for clearing up my confusion about the yolk sac.

    Unabsorbed yolk sac

Great news!!! The baby, Darth Maul, is doing fantastic! His head wound has sealed up nicely, he is full of energy and eating and drinking like a big boy! I know we are not out of the woods, but I am starting to have a little hope of this baby surviving. Thanks everyone for advice!

    Unabsorbed yolk sac

Seems to be doing okay. I have the mothers, 2 chicks and the eggs in a cage now where no one can get them. I hate learning from mistakes! I just hope that baby makes it after all it has been through.

    Unabsorbed yolk sac

Well, we were doing okay, until another broody girl attacked the baby this afternoon. In the process, the mother's who are caring for these 2 babies and the rest of the eggs, left the eggs to protect the babies. I don't know how long they were off the eggs, but one baby who was hatching out...

    Unabsorbed yolk sac

No hole, I just checked. His tummy looks the same as the other baby. He walks funny, but I don't know if that is because he is 4 hours old. This is my first experience with hatching. They are under 2 broody hens and they are being very good mom's. I haven't seen him eat or drink. I just...

    Unabsorbed yolk sac

The yolk sac did come off of him and the umbillical cord was absorbed. Does this change anything? I am trying to stay realistic, but he, at the moment, seems to be doing fine. Up and about playing with the other baby that hatched out last night.

    Bloated Chicken

dlhunicorn, thank you! That article was great! I am glad to know that it is not anything contagious! I am also glad I had someone end it all quickly for her. I did notice a sort of gurgling at times when I was holding her. It was not constant and not a sound I have heard before. My poor...

    Bloated Chicken

Hmmmm......I hadn't thought of that. It isn't impossible, but highly unlikely. We only have 2 venomous species here in CT, but according to DEP there are none in my area of the state. They do spend a lot of time on and around a wood pile. Possibly an infected bite? Thanks!

    Bloated Chicken

Hi there. Yesterday I found my chicken who I had been missing for 2 days. When I picked her up, I found her belly extremely bloated. Her vent was caked with poo and she couldn't stand or walk. She was bloated from just below her keel bone all the way to her vent. It was soft and felt like a...
