I had my day in court on Wednesday. Long story short, I was fined $506 plus $33 court costs and have until March 20 to remove the chickens. I moved the chickens on Sunday. I am still pushing the Board of Health to change the ordinance.
One of my neighbors reported me for having chickens which are prohibited.

In September I received a violation notice because the keeping of poultry is prohibited here. I presented my case to the board of health and in January they denied my request to have the ordinance changed. I was given 45 days to get rid of the chickens. After the 45 days expired I received a...
I went to the meeting today and they said they were unable to discuss the matter due to the impending court case. They did allow me to speak. I presented them with more documentation supporting backyard chickens and the 122 signature petition. I will update next week after I go to court.

The most efficient and cost effective thing to do would be to use regular ceiling fans controlled by thermostats. Solar electric systems are terribly inefficient and expensive. BTW, I have a 9.72 kW grid tied solar electric system on my house.
I am in north eastern NJ and new to this also. While there is no one nearby to purchase chickens from, I have found many within 1 - 1 1/2 hours away. Check Craigslist North Jersey, South Jersey, Central Jersey, Allentown PA, and Hudson Valley NY.
